Default Hello from the Blue Planet!!!

    Hello All,

It's been a while since I've joined a forum. Last time was "Big Dish" forums. I remember Sticky and Cybernaut.
My alias was Meatball Maker back in the 80's. My big dish is gone and now my fun is Ham Radio.

My alias is Cosmicray pronounced Cosmic Ray.

    Welcome to Austech, Albert.

Several radio amateurs among members here, so I guess the Communication Devices section will interest you.

    Where are you from?

Hi cosmicray, welcome to the forum!

That's pretty interesting. So, what did you receive with the big dish(es) back in the 80's? Or, what was it set up for is probably the better question to ask.

I find that scene pretty interesting, even though it was before my time.

    Thanks for the welcome,
    I'm in South Florida.
Used to have fun experimenting and testing with what was available on the Big Dish.
For the last 20 years my hobby is Ham Radio. I own several repeaters and curious to find some help programming
    certain brands.
I was referred to this site by another ham with my same interests.

    Hello Adrian,
Back in the 80's the big dish had all kinds of free stuff like live news feeds, sports, movies and other programs.
When they started going digital from analog, many of the free to air disappeared.

Yeah, so true. It's just not the same today. I was too young when all the interesting stuff was happening, and once I got old enough and developed a love for satellite TV, it was all digital, and nothing to catch anymore. Never even seen an analogue satellite broadcast in my life before.

There are still some FTA analog channels out there but not as many as before. To view them today, you would need a side car for your receiver.
Ham radio operators use to run SSTV or Slow Scan Television. That has also lost some of it's popularity with the
advent of our modern Iphones, computors, small dishes........

Welcome to the madhouse Cosmicray, I see you've already met some of the natives, you should fit in well with them. Me/ I'm too clever for all that airy-fairy radio stuff. IOW - I don't have a clue!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
