Default Google Pixel - No Sound issue

    Just thought i'd ask here
I see this is a common problem after searching the net.

Friend just had his near new Google Pixel lose all sound, music, ring tones, notifications, youtube, voice calls, alarm, you name it, NO SOUND!
    Anyone hear suffered the same?

Did you find a fix or just get the handset replaced?

    Thanks

I've been working for Telstra for the past 17 months and this phone has to be the most problematic.
It's only recently that the influx of problems have arisen, suggesting it maybe software related.
Telstra's repair policy is forward shipping the devices, i.e. they will send a replacement (refurbished) straight away.

Thanks for the real world advice mate
What a shame. My friend also has Insurance for his phone, but it is pointless in this situation.
It is $170 Excess per claim.

He will take the phone back to JB HiFi tomorrow
Would be nice if he could walk out with a New Replacement handset
But i'm sure they will just want to send his Phone to get serviced.

With such a well documented fault
Can you demand a new phone?
Although what is the point, it is only going to have the same issues.

Have you tried a hard reset of the phone?

It gets down to how and where he bought it. It sounds like outright from JB ?

Its something I took in to account when deciding to go back on contract. If there is a fault, I know Telstra will come to the party promptly with a replacement. Particularly after the Note 7 battery issue as an example....I think I am just sick of fighting battles with stuff like this and think its easier to know that I wont have to argue for a replacement.

Google don't really have a great reputation on devices in my opinion. I have a Nexus 5 here, I bought it new and while it wasnt bad, its battery life is and always has been. I gave it to my wife who complained about it endlessly with its random reboots. My Nexus 10 tablet failed to turn on a couple of months ago and even a new battery didn't fix it.

I've been happy with mine. Only having a few reboot issues now but I think I need to clean out my phone.

Strange, as he is on a Optus Reseller Pre Paid.

Made me smile. Even though Optarse are, supposedly, the big competitor, If Helstra ever decided to say to all it's competitors, "You are on your own" Most will fold overnight. How many other industries do you know that the government has said, you are a monopoly and we are going to introduce competition so you must let all your new competitors use your infrastructure to compete. It would be a bit like the government saying that UBER are going to provide competition to the Taxi industry, but UBER must be permitted to use your dispatch infrastructure and you cars.

'Tis one reason that I've stayed with Telstra. The buck still stops with them, and there can be no duck shoving because they are it!

That was my wife's major complaint with the Nexus 5.

As the Nexus range was to a degree an "enthusiasts" phone with early updates and was a touch "experimental", I accepted that.

But now that Google wants to play with the big boys with full features and more importantly full price to boot, I dont think its acceptable.

    Same.

I doesnt matter what it is, all roads lead back to Telstra.

With ISP's, I have been through probably more than a dozen and tested them all, and I am back at Telstra. Have a problem ? We will report it to Telstra. Then you wait days as they go back and forth.

I dont know what the go is though with OB's mate......though a quick look suggest JB is a Telstra dealer, not an Optus one and they likely get their stock from telstra who probably handle warranty.

    Default Update

JB HiFi rang my friend and have offered him a brand new phone (Google Pixel)

    But wait.....

He drove in to get it and they gave his phone to the wrong customer and are now asking him to wait until that customer brings it back!!!
JB Hi Fi Geelong if anyone is interested.
    Perhaps give them a miss.

A far cry from the $1200 my friend was quoted last week when getting his replacement

My old HTC lost all sound, a couple of years after I got it. Blasted out the headphone socket with Servisol Electrical contact cleaner and it was good to go. The headphone socked gets gunged up, and a bit of moisture in the air, and the phone thinks there is a headphone set connected. Maybe if his phone is in a particularly grubby environment, it would do the same.
