If it was me (and of course its not ) I would just upgrade it to Windows 10.
10 runs as well as 7 if not better, and with PC's you have to do it eventually anyway. I believe you can still upgrade free (I am sure someone will correct me if you cant)
It will look like that if you look at it on a touch screen PC.
I don't have touch screens on my PC's & W10 acts just like any other OS without touch screen, it's just more stable than earlier Win versions.
In fact if you customise it by playing around with settings & themes you could make it look exactly like W7 if you wanted.

I've just done the major WIN10 update (took several hours to download and install) and I've found it more responsive with everything.
If there's no limiting reason to stick with 7, I'd certainly recommend 10.

@M-R
Take the time to make a full image before you update, just in case. I've seen the odd time that a rollback to 7 failed quite despite it being well within the month allowed. Use something like Macrium Reflect free, it's bl**dy good:
Unlikely that you'll want to revert anyway but it's comforting insurance.

I would concur, go the W10 route. I run it on all of our machines, some were new when XP was king. I, too did not like W8, and skipped it, which is par for the course for M$ ever since the days of DOS it's always hit and miss i.e. one version is good, the next is a dud, then good, then bad. W10 has been more stable than W7. My only complaint has been the fact that M$ re-install some of the crapware that I don't want, or need. e.g. I don't even OWN an X-Box, Cortana, to me, is a waste of space. Then there is the "spyware" that must be turned off, and, often, gets turned back on again after an update. There are plenty of third party tools to deal with that these days. Occasionally Windoze Update causes grief, but no worse than previous versions. I still maintain that, provided you have a good backup, there is nothing too much to be concerned about.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

My eyes are starting to close. I shall go to bed and dream of this thread while my Dell patiently downloads (again).
'Night, all ! - hope to meet up in the morning; but will understand if you've all decided to leave town ...
I'll tell thee everything I can: there's little to relate ...
That's exactly what I ended up doing... going to bed and letting it 'do its thing'.
Hopefully the Microsoft Fairy works some magic for you overnight.
I have no words ...

Once I'd got over my choking rage, I decided to do what M$ said to and turned off Bitdefender. Ran the download again. It whizzed right through to somewhere around 87% and then gave me the same message !!!!
And the seriously bad thing is that now I'm unable to turn Bitdefender back on. This has never happened before. What the **** am I to do NOW ?!
I'll tell thee everything I can: there's little to relate ...
by running CMD as an administrator and using the following commands to restart the Windows Update service.
Stopping Windows Update...
Code:
net stop wuauserv
Then starting it again...
Code:
net start wuauserv
And then recheck for updates again and it will start downloading updates from the beginning.
