Before you start the above download and run this microsoft tool which should fix your update problems.
Download the 7 version since your going to be using that to update to win 10

It's all a bloody disaster.
(1) The 10 upgrade will not complete the download, regardless of my turning off Bitdefender: it goes through the whole of the 1st iteration and then stops at around 14% of the 2nd.
(2) I have gratefully accepted the advice from levend about the troubleshooter and attempted to run that; and as you see from my latest screengrab, that won't work either !
I'm at my goddam wits' end.
I'll tell thee everything I can: there's little to relate ...
Does it have an error code anywhere ?
This thread seems to suggest its a problem with damaged or corrupt system files, which may be the case on your Win 7 installation.
I would say to follow the steps above, but noticed your error picture doesn't have an error code. Anyone else have any thoughts ?
What if he reinstalls win 7 and try's again? I did that once when i was updating to win 8 and it worked.
I agree with admin,
Follow the advice in the link for W10.
As I suggested earlier, you may have a corrupted registry.
As always, ensure you have backed up all files you don't want to risk losing.
How I handle such things is to download the from M$ and use it to create an installation disk/usb. Boot from that and perform an upgrade. Once the upgrade is done, you can then perform a clean install without ever needing your w7 disks again.

Who's Leigh, Chic and Vich? LOL
Adrian; I'm Leigh, Chic and Vich can speak for themselves,.
The media creation tool is idiot proof, even I can use it. It actually does the hard work for you. I created a newer version of W10 only last week. Started the tool, plugged in an 8Gb USB stick, and let the tool do it's stuff. When finished all I had to do was plug it into the recalcitrant machine and boot from it. If you are uncertain, give me a week (only 'cause I need the time to do it) I could create a step by step list of instructions that even I could understand. Mostly these sorts of things are self explanatory so, if you take your time and read the information on the screen and answer the questions as they are asked you can hardly go wrong. I'm guessing that you have a second machine that you are talking to us on which means that if you run into trouble, or do not understand something, you can, at least, hop on here and ask.

I think I read that you are now resident in Geelong?.
If it helps, I'm in Werribee - If you ever get down this way I would be only too happy to rebuild your system for you in any of the variants you like (Xp through 10)
No cost but it may take a few hours of your time.
PM me if interested.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

It's me again - the irritating woman who started all this stuff ...
Just to tell all you helpful blokes that I'm now running on Win 10. And you're right - it's great ! I don't have to deal with any of those infernal screen-boxes once past login.
I had it done by a pro - found a sole trader here. Well, down in Drysdale (lucky him). Sole traders are the people I will always deal with from choice.
I thank you all one more time, gentlemen !!! Ciao for now ...
