Default Jumpstarting Commodore with Battery in Boot

I was asked earlier today to help a neighbour jumpstart his Commodore which seems to have a totally flat battery. Neither cables nor one of those Jaycar type jumpstarters succeeded. Hooked up okay, power to the vehicle okay. Starter would crank but only just, and the engine would not catch. I suspect the battery needs replacing. However, I'm wondering whether connecting the jumpstarter directly to the battery in the boot rather than the terminal under the bonnet is worth a try?

I had a VE Omega that refused to start - dead battery and tried to jump start it - both under the bonnet and the boot, would wind over and that was about it until I placed in a new battery - then no issues

Remove the dead battery & place in a fully charged good battery and see how you go, and at least eliminate the battery being an issue

Yeah, what freakee1 said. You will need to replace the old battery as it's so low it's absorbing the power from the jump-start battery.

You may be able to revive the old dead battery with a proper charge, however once they have been that dead, they usually become untrustworthy.
    Cheers, Tiny
