And everything is in beautiful (plain, ugly, boring, cheap-looking) Arial font now.
I am just overcome right now, the brilliance of this...
Latest Windows 10 update, and... yeah... wait for it... no clock on the taskbar anymore.
I mean, this shit is so advanced, not even I saw it coming.
Pfft, who needed that silly thing anyway? Clearly people who are stupid enough to work, earn a salary, etc...

I still have the clock.

OK, something funny going on. Clock is back after playing with some toggles relating to the taskbar, but I noticed funny block symbols where arrows should be in menus, etc. Same thing for the colon in clock. It is doing what it does sometimes when you change a font and it doesn't have a certain character available, it just uses a little block to show it:
Also, not so sure it's Arial font, could be MS Sans Serif font of some kind.

I think the latest "patch" may not have had enough glue on it. It has played havoc with some 'puters. All my machines seem to have been fairly immune thus far. Nothing strange at all. FWIW my clock has stayed put! Wife's lappy had issues with a weather gadget on her desktop that suddenly started working properly again, after the update!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Hmmm....nothing wrong with the clock on this W10 machine or the one I was using late last night. There has been a lot of hard drive activity but as I have all updates turned off I appear to have withstood the latest Microsoft assault to which you refer.
However...time will tell.
Perhaps I shall dig a moat for added protection .

Can't believe it. Switch the PC on this morning, and everything is back to normal. No weird fonts, clock is back, etc. Tried restarting several times last night and nothing rectified. Switch on from a cold boot, and now it seems to have rectified.
They shouldn't play with a person like this. I genuinely thought something had gone wrong with my machine.
As of the last 1-2 years updating ANYTHING makes it worse, period.
A lot of apps lose good features or simply don't work any more, all through the bank not just Windows stuff.
Just got off a 30min phone call with the Australia post, where the girl kept me entertained all the time while waiting for their unresponsive computer that just got updated but I forgot to ask her if they were running Windows 10. She probably wouldn't have known and was talking like a waterfall about all kinds of other things.
When I have something running reasonably good I make sure nothing gets updated anymore at least not automatically or without the option to revert it again.
Of course when can one say any version of Windows actually runs reasonably good?
In the old days one hoped for an update to fix bugs, but these days they just add more bugs.
What sort of mentality do these new kids have that rush out updates every second day?
Problem here is that they have generic minds and don't realise that there are people who need to modify their systems because they to do more than posting their selfies all over the Internet. So their updates don't consider that.
I also don't buy the security update shyte, more like giving them more options for spying and data mining.
With a bit of common sense you can run any version of Windows safely ...by not using it for browsing and emails , most modern people use their (Unix-like)phone or tablet for that any way.
... and of course never click on the big green 'Update" button to 'Fix' your computer

I was running the Windows 10 theme (changes colours and wallpapers on a regular interval) when I did the update. Wonder if this could have caused something?
The problem is this whole connected rubbish.
Every app needs your privates and datamines your behaviour, so it can send it to somebody for them to spam you to hell.
This is the reason why we have all these security problems in the first place, but Microsoft tops them all.
While I can partly understand Google, as their income depends on it because their services/apps are otherwise mostly free, Microsoft still charges big bucks for their bloated junk.
They would be better off targeting two different client groups with separate OS versions, rather than creating only this all-in-one overly complicated bloatware dinosaur.
I wish there were a simple, mean and clean Windows 10 for a PC with no Cortana rubbish, annoying wizards that won't let me do what I want, AND NO APP B.S.
A true Windows 10 Professional, where I simply install and run MY software like I could with XP, just using modern hardware.
It is possible. I know you can delete a few things. I tried my best to tame this Win10 beast and even managed to get a few applications running from early 2000's that can not be replaced with any software today, but I know a single update would destroy all my work when "Cortana" suddenly wakes up again and sets everything back to the way Microsoft likes it.
Google/Android, and unfortunately I have to say iOS, do a much better job with the whole app scene.
Microsoft lags light years behind and because it has to combine the apps with their legacy components it fails miserably and to me that would also be the reason why there are so many updates still ironing out bugs and dealing with security issues with all the ports they must keep open for the apps.

This horsesh*t has ruined my whole computer and now I can't even get rid of it!
No more options to rollback to the previous version of Windows, the option under recovery is gone!
Can't uninstall it under update history either.
This sh*t is now on my computer and I can't get rid of it! It has screwed up everything. None of my programs and hardware items want to work properly. They totally screwed up my Canon Pixma printer, the taskbar, desktop icons, Microsoft Edge no longer works.
Now I find out I'm gonna have to reimage my whole PC to get rid of this crap.
WTF Microsoft???!!!

I've had no issues whatsoever.....
Browse from behind a fence and use a suitable condom, and don't update without taking a backup.

...and maybe only to get the problem back once you got it all working because MS force updates.
My trick is to set Wifi to metered and Win10 will not autoupdate.
Of course you can not rule out that their are another issues from third party software that might be already on your image.
I never keep backup images, only back up my data and media files on separate disks.
I always do a fresh install with Windows when things start to get messy or slow.
Maybe allow it then to update, then go offline after it is authenticated and install your applications and when everything is smooth, set Wifi to metered.
Ppl get hacked and corrupt systems because of their surf behaviour or what they install, updates are only short term bandaids for that. I can live without them if my system is running the way I want it.

Well basically had to do the "reset". All is working great now. But, have to reinstall office and everything else again. I am typing this from Edge. Nah, they reckon it's good. Got niggles immediately trying to open this tab. Mozilla FF and Chrome are better.
Yeah, of course. Thing is though, I'm pretty boring. Don't browse anything "dodgy". I don't download stuff, basically watching YouTube is as exciting as it gets for me. My best assessment would be that the update process has messed with the registry. Cases have been reported of other weird stuff happening too. Icons disappearing, clock issues and MS Edge not working, among others.
Like yours, my second PC (which has lower specs than my first) went through the upgrade process no problem. All is working fine.
People are saying it is just a random malfunction and hits certain (very few) PCs.
Yeah, but I don't even. Like I was saying to enf, I am the most boring internet browsing person alive! I mean, I come to Austech. That's the highlight of my internet browsing. Rest of the time I'm downloading scientific journal articles for my research. Maybe I'll watch a YouTube video here and there. That's it. Programs I downloaded was MS Office 365. I don't have time for anything else, my work occupies me. I don't even like porn. Don't download things because I have this OCD that makes me think the slightest amount of unnecessary stuff on my hard drive will make the PC slower.
So, I am pretty much convinced the update just screwed up the registry. Now did a full reset and it works great again.
