    Default Panasonic Toughbook CF-31

Kind of a silly question. I am a radio guy not much of a computer hardware guru. I bough a Panasonic toughbook cf31. It came with two 4gb ram card installed. I upgraded them to two 8gb ram chips. So when I look at the computer information screen in my computer it shows that I have 16gb installed, but only 3.4gb of available ram. I also installed a brand new 500gb hardrive, and don't save anything to the computer really, everything goes to an external hardrive, and backed up on a second one. There is plenty of hardrive and ram, I'm confused as to why the computer is only seeing some available. It also has a fresh from scratch version of Windows 7 with all the recent updates installed.

From what I recall, RAM upgrade capacity depended on the series of the CF-31.

There was (I think) Mk 1 up to Mk 5 with the earlier models only accepting a max of 8GB of RAM.

Depending on the Windows version and the processor, there was also maximums of VR.

I suspect only the i5 and i7 processor models of the later MK series running W10 may take 16GB of RAM (someone may be able to confirm).

Which specific model MK? is yours,

    Which processor?

It sounds like you are running a 32bit version of Windoze, available RAM is limited to 4Gb. Re-install windoze but select the 64bit version.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I don't recall seeing an option to select between the two.

depends on your dvd, you do need 64 bit dvd or 32 bit will only see under 4gb ram as said

dvds are either 1 or the other, only hacked copies have a choice of 32 or 64

When you have a 32bit and 64bit CD you can make legally a Cd with both on.

I purchased a used but sounds legit serial number on eBay, and they gave me the imag file to put on a thumb drive, so I am going to give that a try. It cost under 10 bucks. This would be awesome for the price if it works. If not I will just have to purchase an actual copy. I have quite a few toughbooks for work, so that might not be a horrible option.

    Thanks everyone for their help!

OT... Motodan31 you made a help desk inquiry of which a reply was sent to you.

You need to respond, or the ticket will expire.

Perhaps you misspelled your email address on the help desk ticket.. it's different to the one you used to register your account.

Can you PM me with the correct email address?
