    Default signal help

    guys

my channel 9 sucks on 2 out of 4 tvs
had a guy a know redo the antenna last year, seemed ok at the time (took my amp down)

ch 9 has 91 strength but 0-25 quality when it mucks up, really only use this tv @ 5.30 pm weekdays (millionaire)

could putting a masthead amp back up fix it? or i need to pay more money out
why do we need the NBN ? because the copper network is constipated & needs fibre

If you have good signal strength but poor signal quality without an amp, adding one isn't likely to help.

You need to have good signal quality at the antenna, otherwise an amp will just make a poor signal 'louder' (Eg: stronger strength but no, or little improvement in quality).

What's the signal quality readings on the other 2 TV's that work OK?

Assuming your antenna is pointed at the translators on Gan Gan Hill, they are only 600 watts, but should be OK.

It's something that's very difficult to determine without being there with test gear.

Are all the outlets connected to a single 4-way splitter?

It's rare, but I have seen a splitter go faulty.

I take it it's just a passive splitter... not an active/powered splitter?

Different tuners handle some poor signals better than others, but a drop in signal quality to 0-25% possibly suggests an interference issue, as it happens regularly at particular times.

It can also be a faulty connection/dry joint but not usually if two out of 4 TV's continue to receive OK, although a dodgy splitter could produce this effect.

When someone can help you Phil... check signal quality levels on the working TV's when the others fail.

On the other hand... it could indeed be Eddie and the Colliwobbles.

yes it could be a bad run, its had many changes since i 1st did it 20 yrs ago, passive splitter, but could be a bad cable even
might even be the tv, its a old dse i think, & im getting interference in my room on the atv that loops off the foxtel from the front room.
    ill get someone out

Is the Foxtel fed back into a splitter for distribution to other TV's in the house?

Sometimes these types of signal distribution can cause issues.

Yep... best to have a tech check out the entire system, Phil.
