Harry Beitzel, former AFL/VFL broadcaster and umpire, dies at 90.
A famed media personality,#Beitzel was a broadcaster with 3AW, 3AK and ABC. He also umpired 182 VFL games, including the 1955 grand final.

He was a crook ON the field as well as in administration in the VFL.
I remember in 1980 when he was director of umpiring, Collingwood averaged 12 free kicks a game more than anyone else over the entire season. Like having an extra player. When questioned about it in the press, he laughed it off and just said "Collingwood always get to the ball first." An astonishing statement by the supposedly neutral umpires coach.
In the grand final Richmond smashed Collingwood by a then record 81 points... Collingwood hardly got near the ball all day, yet STILL got (you guessed it) 12 free kicks more than Richmond. He looked like a total goose....wasn't surprised when later in life he became a convicted shyster.
RIP....................Only the good die young.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
