Seems like we're developing the same snowflake mentality that now seems endemic in the US.
Aboriginal Community Consultation Report - The January 26 Report
Well, the report is in and, according to the Mayor on RN this morning, council intends to act accordingly. cancelling Australia Day events, including Citizenship ceremonies. At the Council meeting on February 7 in 2017, Yarra City Council unanimously carried the
following motion: “That Council commence discussions with the Wurundjeri Council and
Yarra’s Aboriginal Advisory Group on the future of Yarra’s Australia Day event and a
process for determining and recommending any changes to be made at the local level.”
Youi just gotta love the last paragraph in the Executive Summary:
See......you haven't even opened your mouth, and you're a racist alreadyCouncil should be prepared for a potential media and broader community backlash as part
of this and should ensure that Aboriginal peoples who are sharing their stories are protected
from racist attacks. A number of consultation participants congratulated Yarra for taking on
this issue, both formally and informally.

Well, the vote has been taken and the anticipated result has transpired"
Australia Day references to be scrapped after Yarra council vote
A Melbourne council will stop referring to January 26 as Australia Day, after a controversial motion was passed in a dramatic town hall meeting.
Yarra council voted to:
Hold a small-scale, "culturally sensitive" event featuring a smoking ceremony on January 26.
Adopt a communications plan that focuses on "broader community education to help people better understand Aboriginal community experiences of January 26".
Refer to the day as "January 26" until another term is adopted nationally.
Officially support the #changethedate campaign in council publications and social media.
Consider ways to lobby the Federal Government to change the date of Australia Day.
The City of Yarra council will also stop holding a citizenship ceremony on the day, and instead stage an event "marking the loss of Indigenous culture", after a unanimous vote in support of a raft of Australia Day changes.
Does anyone remember when local councils used to concern themselves with garbage collection, sewerage, sports grounds, road maintenance, parks and garden, and all those other sort of mundane community issues.
We now have three distinct levels of government involving themselves in National issues.
Australia......the smart country.
PS: Wonder what they'll be smoking at the "smoking ceremony".

Aaaah mate, they have levees for those services now if they can get away with it. The rates go to the salaries of over indulgent, agenda driven, globe trotting loons and overpaid no-ops who think up the sort of extravagantly stupid bullsh*t that you've mentioned. Like fed and state issues, we deserve what we get because as voters we are lazy and stupid as a group.....

The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
I would hope that none of those councillors avail themselves of the public holiday forinvas....Australia Day. Of course they should also open council chambers and treat it as just another day. The only problem they might have there, will be staffing, but that is council's problem...
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
Shouldn't be too long now until the next step.
In the interest of cultural sensitivity we will need to pull down all those statues of invading white racists like Cook, Macquarie, Blaxland, Lawson, Wentworth, Bligh, Parkes, et al, and rename all the towns and places named thereafter with more appropriate indigenous names.
And if you think that is far-fetched, have a look at what is happening to statues of historic figures in the Southern States of the US, and what has already happened to town, street, and place names in New Zealand.
And here I was thinking self flagellation was an outmoded concept.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
Australia Day should be celebrated on 1st January, to commemorate the Federation of Australia on 1 Jan 1901. The 26 Jan 1877 is Colonisation Day and more of a celebrated day for the Poms to commemorate Colonisation and establishment of their Prison Colony.
But then everyone would want an extra days holiday to cover that and New Years Day.
Should have known, more than one women in a room the IQ quotient plummets along with sanityThe changes were brought before the council after months of consultation with the local Indigenous community, but Mayor Amanda Stone confirmed she had been inundated with calls opposing the changes.
So 2~3% feel excluded and therefore their feelings dictate behaviour ??"We've been informed very consistently from the Aboriginal community in Yarra and more broadly that it's not a day of celebration for them, and it's very hard to reconcile having a day of national celebration when one whole sector of the population feels excluded," she said.

I would think the next Council Election will be interesting.
The arrogance of these people is almost beyond comprehension:
So she just expected that the Feds would cop it sweet whilst she and her fellow snowflakes meddled with a National Institution?Yarra mayor Amanda Stone said she had not expected the federal government would follow through on its threat to ban the council from holding citizenship ceremonies.
So the Minister was supposed to enter into discussions AFTER the council had passed the January 26 resolution. She said she would have preferred that the minister pick up the phone.
"It's unnecessary and an overreaction," she said. "We asked for a discussion but he's chosen to act instead. It's a shame."
I’m pretty sure that’s called negotiating with a gun at your head.
This one is a doozy."People feel it's a very brave move, it's overdue," she said. "I think the bottom line is you have to listen to your community.
"It's not unanimous, very little is, but there's a growing movement around [changing] the date. These are conversations we've had for a long time with our Aboriginal community, we just haven't acted on them."
From the January 26 report to Council:
So this is the Mayors’ idea of “listening to your community”.The project plan was developed in line with the Councillor
motion, which called for a targeted and contained consultation with a specific group…..
Only Aboriginal people were eligible to complete this survey
The online survey was then sent to these organisations to be
circulated to Aboriginal members of the organisation and other trusted Aboriginal contacts.
For the information of the Mayor, at the 2011 Census, the total population of the City of Yarra was 78,903.
Of those 78,903 persons, the princely total of 316 (0.4% of the total population) was Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
From the January 26 Report again:
Executive Summary
So, out of a population of around 80,000 people, 88 people participated in the online survey, and a further 15 took part in some "initial consultations", that resulted in councils’ unilateral decision to dump Australia Day.In total, 88 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people participated in the online survey,
with 60% describing themselves as ‘living, working or spending time in Yarra’ and 25.7%
describing themselves as having ‘family or historical connections to Yarra’.
A further 15 Aboriginal people participated in the initial consultation at Melbourne Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation Incorporated (MAYSAR).
Commercial-grade tokenism.
Democracy is alive and well, and living in Yarra City.
Read the bio's of the Yarra City councillors, and all will become clear:
And yes, enf, the mayor, Amanda Stone, is a member of The Greens.....just thought I'd get in first
As if Richard Di Natale hasn't got enough problems already........I'm surprised somebody in Canberra hasn't made the connection already......give it time, I guess.
I've a feeling that The Greens might come very close to sharing the same fate as The Democrats at the next election.

Australia........welcome to your future:
FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATES TRYING TO ERASE HISTORY
The ignorance and disregard for history knows no bounds for generations taught to feel rather think in our government run indoctrination centers known as public schools. The left wing media reinforces their ignorance with misinformation, fake news and government sanctioned propaganda. Snowflakes across the land melt at anything they are instructed to find offensive. Everything and everyone who doesn’t agree with their half baked views are declared racists.

I like the piccie, TD. Maybe they should all "Hold their Breath" for justice.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
The snowflakes are everywhere and a similar thing nearly happened in Bathurst N.S.W.
In a large park in the centre of town there is a 100 y.old statue of the explorer Evans who was an early colonist whom discovered and mapped the Bathurst Plains in 1813.
Evans is depicted standing holding a map and looking outwards. Kneeling at his feet is an aboriginal guide also looking outwards.
A local aboriginal "elder" and a snowflake councillor determined that the depiction of an aborigini kneeling at the feet of a white man was denigratory to aboriginal people and the statue which had stood there for 100 years should be removed and put in a museum.
Happily the public furore was such the statue still stands.
The snowflake left whom wish to rewrite history will never give up
We have a statue of an Aboriginal Woman with small child newly erected in our town. So far no one has complained that it is too explicit for public consumption, or that it objectifies women, given that she only has a covering over her pubis.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
