I TURNED DOWN your offer ?????
Did I actually refuse; or just not respond to it ?
'Cause if the latter, I was just being me - not focussing and skipping in my reading.
If the former, I was writing in Urdu or Sanskrit.
    Sighh ...
Yes: paid the first bloke $115 - the one who took an image of the C: drive and then, after formatting it and putting 10 on, replaced it.
Paid the huge and somewhat alarming Croat $179 for a clean install, laptop returned with 0 problems but a lot of stuff he likes and I don't. Like pictures on the desktop when I log in; two user accounts; Opera opening two tabs at once (or any browser) - stuff like that.
I say, SB - what was your offer to DO ?
I'll tell thee everything I can: there's little to relate ...

And Outlook now opens up about half-way: if I want to reply I have to click another key ! WTF ???
This is what gives me the irrits, this extra keystroke stuff.

Did I say you TURNED DOWN the offer??

No, I simply suggested that you perhaps should have taken it up
To answer your question, you simply didn't respond - no foul, simply your choice.
I was simply trying to point out that you had the option to save yourself a few dollars

My offer was in your original thread, you were lamenting the difficulties and I (I'm a sucker for a sob story, ask Rick or even Oceanboy) offered to build / repair or rebuild your system at no cost.
It would have involved you driving to Werribee (It's that , that probably put you off)

    This was my original post:

I think I read that you are now resident in Geelong?.
If it helps, I'm in Werribee - If you ever get down this way I would be only too happy to rebuild your system for you in any of the variants you like (Xp through 10)
No cost but it may take a few hours of your time.
    PM me if interested.

In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.

    SCHEISSEN !!!
I am definitely the most useless slob I have ever known. I have not the faintest recollection of your generous offer, SB. Please accept the sincere apologies of a silly old woman who cannot, it seems, even goddam READ.

Can I get to Werribee by the Gull ?
    (I don't have a car.)

What is the Gull ?? I'll assume some sort of train or bus - Dunno if you want to be wandering around with a PC or laptop under your arm on public transport
If you would like to go ahead with my offer, perhaps PM me and we will tray and find some alternatives.
Perhaps you might have a family member / girl friend or associate who might be able to help out.

Wow, I've just re read your post on Costs, Approx $300 - Christ I would have driven to Geelong for that

If you just click on the start button and start typing, search will automatically start. or right click on the taskbar the second item in the menu will say "search" by hovering over that you will find two options - "Hidden" and "Show search icon" click on the "Show search icon" to have it appear in your taskbar. You will then find a little magnifying glass appear in the taskbar.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    It's Cortana.
    :-/
The word 'search' ain't seen; but the word 'Cortana' is. And it's not a magnifying glass, it's the Cortana icon.
How come my bloody Win 10 doesn't do what yours does ?!

Shouldn't matter, when I right click the Win icon, I see the word search, however when I click on it Cortana opens, Cortana is the search engine of W10.
It actually will search just like any other search box.

    Like this:

    Then this;

If I right click the task bar & hover over Cortana I get the Cortana task bar settings. Select one & play with it, if you don't like it you can change hide/remove it.

    Cheers, Tiny

I just realised, I've disabled Cortana. Have a look Winaero tweaker allows you to modify many settings including turning off Cortana.

Exactly. There really isn't any difference between Windows 7 and 10 in my opinion.

All it comes down to is turning off things you don't want.........which is exactly the same as what you do every time Windows comes out, configure it to your own preferences.

I just dealt with someone who used Windows 10 once on something and didn't like it so was anti Windows 10. He bought a new laptop with Windows 10 on it and I went around and turned off and removed everything I knew he didnt use and now he thinks its great.

Its as simple as that really.

You might want to consider philquad's offer to you of fixing it up how you want it via remote access.

You should not consider this unless you know the person, but I ( and hundreds of others here ) will vouch for Phil.

Remote Access involves you downloading particular software the same as phil has and you will receive an incoming access request from him. By accepting it, it allows phil to take over your computer mouse and go about customising it for you. You can even sit back and watch what he does on the screen.

Giving access to him only allows a one off access. Remote access software is used by a lot of companies for computer support.

It could save a dangerous trip on the back of a seagull holding a PC !
