Win 10 password - oh, and users

Didn't waste much time, did I ?

My new IT bloke has set a password on Win 10 that I can't get rid of, even after following details of how to from the Net.
I believe it's because he has also left me with two user accounts - both for myself - that I don't begin to understand. He did give me a very rapid explanation when he delivered the Dell back, but hey, my brain needs slooooooow stuff.
Ask me questions re what I need to tell you in order for you to offer suggestions - please ?

Perhaps he's added an administrator account for himself to aid servicing in the future.

It's probably best to discuss it with him.

I readily understand the logic of what you say, mtv: but he's deeply involved in some corporate job at this time, and would indicate Croatian grumpiness if I dared to approach him on so lightweight a matter.
Still. I guess I can wait for a couple of weeks ...

I think MTV is correct. It makes it so much easier for service people to fix a problem if a newbie somehow stuffs things up. I've often fielded the "I've forgotten my Password" calls. There are ways around it, but a second account with administrative privileges is far quicker and easier than anything else.

I believe that one account is that I actually USE, and one is a local. Or maybe I use the local and the other one is a Microsoft account. I shall put my request for removal of password to him when I feel brave enough, but I may not find the courage to ask him to explain again about these two user accounts.

It shouldn't be too hard to revert, however, W10 is as good , if not better, that w7. W8, on the other hand...... My wife, who is even less computer literate than you, finds W10 actually easier than W7. (Her main use has been to watch movies on our home network and Netflix. I've also just given her a small laptop to replace the tablet that she used to keep track of her medications. The tablet even got left home in favour of the lappy when she went to hospital this time. To put her into context, browsing the 'net - not likely! Sending an e-mail - only if I type it and send it! (She knows how to open and read them - I think). So, her machine is dumbed down. Which reminds me - I'd better reset the permissions on her bedroom computer so that the rest of the network can see it.

My problem with 10 starts with the fact that it requires extra keystrokes - to do anything, it seems to me. Yesyes, I'm probably exaggerating, but, e.g., in 7 you click on the Start button and there's the search slot - easy. Not in 10.
Chic (my husband when he was alive) taught me a fair bit; and I pick the brains of you blokes because I got used to asking endless questions and always being answered. Which is why I appreciate you all.
Back to 10: I don't ... LIKE it. I LOVED 7.
But I fear that reverting to 7 is going to bring back all those pesky problems I had - the impossibility of getting away from bloody error messages; all that crap sitting on my C: drive.

Hehe, the search is now right there on the taskbar by the start button. You can even use voice commands with Cortana if you have a microphone.
I'd suggest getting a book like Windows 10 for dummies (if it exists, most likely tho) or use google search to find the answers if you are stumped on how to do something. Windows 10 is really pretty good now, just takes a little bit of learning to see it.

Oh, and maybe ask your computer guru to set up using a PIN (4 digits) or Windows Hello (face recognition) instead of a password (if you are using the internet on the machine you really should have a password on the account).

WIN 7 only has a bit over 2 years left for security updates support, so it's probably best to get used to using WIN 10 now, as you'll probably eventually have to use it regardless.

Getting used to 10 is no harder that it has been getting used to earlier versions when updates have been made.

The transition to 10 from 7/8/8.1 is easier than it was to 7 from XP IMHO.

While I guess we all could, given access to your PC, get rid of any or all passwords on your system, it's difficult to understand where this is annoying you.
Is it on start up where your can see perhaps two different logins??
Would you prefer to see only one ??

If this is the case you can use a command line instruction and have your PC automatically boot to whatever account you wish, forgoing seeing any account start-up status.
To accomplish this, simply;

Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box,
Type netplwiz , and click/tap on OK to open advanced User Accounts
Then follow the attached picture

I like all the other recommend staying with and learning 10, there is just no life in 7, and without trying to teach you how to suck eggs, you would have to take into consideration what you have spent to get 10, If I understand correctly you've already paid for 2 IT Techs which it seems your dissatisfied with their results.

Perhaps you should have taken me up on my original freebie offer.
