Default Blocked Websites - Foxtel Wins

Here's an order from the Federal Court which requires ISP's to block pirate websites.
There's a list of site to be blocked but I don't think that's going to be all of them.

If that's winning I'd hate to see them lose. Blocking is so easily circumvented that the list probably steers more traffic to these sites than it blocks!

I'm sure they will all work fine using a VPN - use Opera as your browser and you have one built in!

When is this supposed to occur...? It's laughable!

More wasted funds poured into the coffers of the legal fraternity.....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

Yawn. Every six months or so, there's a big news story about the copyright holders having fixed the problem of pirated movies and TV episodes once and for all. Every time, nothing changes and those who want to can still easily download whatever they like.

I use 1337x a bit...that's the only one I too have heard of. Even though it wouldn't be a problem, they themselves will probably quickly circumvent this idiocy.

The Piratebay didn't rank a mention....I'm disappointed! Haven't needed to watch any illegal content yet. FWIW, they don't appear to have targetted any Usenet sites which is where, I believe, most illegal content is to be found. Can they even block a VPN?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    Simple answer: Yes.

I expect to see Australia added to the list of countries that already block VPN, as a next step, only matter of the industry lobbying hard enough.
I could expect in the future that corporate users will have to apply for a government regulated licence if they want to use VPN.

Like blocking torrent search engines, it is a cat and mouse game between VPN providers and Governments blocking and changing IP access addresses of the most popular VPN providers.
However Deep Packet Sniffing will also reveal your VPN activity even using OpenVPN and they can bock that traffic more efficiently, just like ISPs identify your Torrent transport protocol and throttle you, which works for them EVEN WHEN YOU USE A VPN.
Disable µTP and bazinga, no more throttling. Worked for me with my provider and VPN when I played around with it.

There are also ways to obfuscate VPN protocols so the cat and mouse game will always continue but it WILL get harder for the downloaders.
