Will I be fined if I don’t vote?
No, you won’t. Unlike in elections and referendums, the government has no power to fine you if you fail to return the postal survey.

My last quarter power bill was $2100! I care not for SSM one way or the other.
Perhaps if elected members would focus on issues that mattered, the electorate may pay attention?
Completely hollow for corporations and sporting bodies to declare their allegiance to SSM; costs them nothing, and they can retreat to their high moral ground corner.
Why is this issue given so much oxygen? What a parlous state politics has reached!

Yes. The World has real problems that need solving, but instead the decision makers are being distracted by something that's only an issue for a tiny minority of the population.

The thing is: what are we going to achieve here? I suspect some gay people think legalising gay marriage will somehow make their relationships seem more legitimate to our society. I think most of us already recognise them as legitimate and letting them walk down the aisle will change nothing. It won't magically stop homosexuals from being recognised as "different" or "not normal" - a status that they seem to both complain about and rejoice in whenever it suits them.

On the other hand, as a straight bloke who has never been married and has no great desire to be married: is the yes campaign saying that my long term relationship is invalid or somehow a lesser quality relationship simply because I'm not married to my other half? After all, the only difference is ten minutes spent at the Registry Office to sign a bit of paper.

Would it not be easier and more equitable to repeal marriage all together? Currently the Government recognises de-facto relationships and doesn't really care who, what, or how many, you sleep with. If we were all wanting to be truly equal then we should repeal marriage laws all together and, that way, wall flower would not feel left out because no one has asked them to marry.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

I was reading the comments in a discussion on a news site about marriage equality and a Yes supporter was spruiking the values of "progressive" countries like Canada in this regard.

A No voter then stated Canada was very progressive because you are allowed by law to have oral sex with a dog in Canada. Thinking it was a joke, I still thought I would check out the claim and the No voter was correct. You can have sex with an animal in Canada as long as penetration does not take place, ie as in intercourse.

I was very surprised to see that, and of course it is of interest as I have previously stated this decision is just the start of the loonies. Just like "Global Warming" failed when it rained, it then became "Climate Change" (cant lose can you....the weather changes).

We started with Gay Marriage which didn't go down to well, so we then went with "Marriage Equality". Which of course will mean everyone and everybody are equal. Of course this will mean at some stage some strange people will push to marry animals as well, and given the above legal decision, they can near consummate it.

Correct, there is no need for same sex de-facto relationships or official marriage certificates, when it comes to custodial, guardianship or financial concerns at the mental disablement or death of a partner; a simple power of attorney/living will & a death will, can provide all that protection.

No. I do believe society has rights to protect itself by saying No. Gays have rights so we also do.
Protect by making sure the future is sustainable. With the proposed change introduction all will start crashing, family values, kids, parents etc.
No, because I want my kids to have rights to say they have mum and dad, not that ridiculous Parent No1 and Parent No 2.

Of course all of those who want to abuse the sky writers for posting a "No" message could put their money where their mouth is, and PAY the sky writers to post a "Yes" message, just like the No campaigners did.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Someone sacked by their employer for voting no.

The Yes camp were boasting on Facebook that they got 40 odd voting papers from 60 odd requests door knocking. They have now taken the post down.

Is this really what Australia calls democracy ?

    Thanks Shorten.

    I also found this :

The Australian Parliament a decade ago passed a reform package that removed discrimination against homosexual couples in areas as diverse as taxation, superannuation, aged care, citizenship, and family law.

    Game Over.
