Damn ! ... wouldn't that be close to terrorism ?
They are getting soo pushy. They don't deserve to be granted SSM.
There's no doubt, if they get it they will then demand all sorts of changes to suit themselves.

Not if you aren't on the Do Not Call Register and even if you are it's allowed if the sender is registered as a charity or a political party, i think. I doubt the sender 'YESEQUALITY' is either of those. The likely source is either 'Australian Marriage Equality' or the 'Coalition for Marriage' going by what they think in this:

I got mine at 4.18 pm eastern standard time.

I'm on the DNCR so tempted to take it further but then my gut reaction is that this will actually hurt them so why should i get too pissed off about it.

You've either attached it the PostImage link for 'thumbnail for forums' or used this forum's 'Add image to post' link which reduces the size. To see your full sized image on PostImage, right click it and select 'Open image in new tab' from the context menu, i'll take you to the direct link, here:

The link to the full image by clicking on the thumbnail was working before you edited your post.

As mentioned, to post the actual full-size image, you need to copy and paste the direct link.

The text issue in the news.

They reckon numbers were computer-generated at random.

Wow... it managed to 'randomly' select all my family members plus many friends and colleagues.

    I call bullshit on 'random'.

Absolutely it's BS, everyone i've asked has got one. Maybe leaving out just one in a hundred lets them claim 'random'. Or, they just lie like pigs in mud ...... This seems to have blown up in their faces. I really thought it might even be the 'no' mob pulling a swifty but it seems not. Blind Freddy could have seen that this wasn't going to be well-received even by the 'only-just-saying-yes' ppl and piss off the fence sitters for sure.

    No campaign messages received here

They'd be too late anyway as our votes went in the post a week ago

    No texts to me either.
I read somewhere about the texts going to Telstra users. I wonder if that's only Telstra users. I'm not.

It's SPAM... it all gets deleted, but I object to getting any SPAM sent to me.

I'm Voda and got one. However my number was issued by Telesta back in the '90s, moved to Optus [TPG] and now Vodaphone [TPG]. If they are truthful that the numbers were 'randomly generated' and not confined to one network provider then the algorithm would throw up a lot of invalid numbers as well. The total possible combinations of numbers for the entire AU mobile service is enormous and even only using all Telstra's originally assigned prefixes it would be huge. Doesn't pass the pub test.

It's the thin edge of the wedge my friend. I'm on the do not call register, they SHOULDN'T be contacting me. Period. If they get away with this by successfully arguinging 'We couldn't know if the recipient was on the DNCR because we didn't get their number illegally and it wasn't targeted at anyone specifically' then we can expect in the future to get all kinds of 'randomly-generated' crap texts and annoying automated voice calls trying to sell us everything from time-shares in the Bahamas to teeth whitening kits using the same lame reason. They're being arrogant and sneaky imo and although it'll likely hurt them as well as blow a hole in their budget [i can almost hear the barristers being briefed as i type this] the snowball [haha, that's just a big bunch of snowflakes] effect is primarily my concern if they get away with it.

I bet if the 'No' mob had done the same stunt the bleating 'fuss' would be deafening from the LGBTI lot [brrrr!] and thereby make us 'snowflakes' look like tuffnuts.

I'm Optus, so it seems a variety are getting them....and yes, I'm on the register.

They were just going on about this on the morning blather show....apparently it's pissed off thousands of yes supporters as well.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I'm on the same DNCR but I still get lots of unsolicited phone calls and phone messages. It certainly is irritating. I got the same message and deleted it without hesitation, even though I support the YES vote !
    Have a great day

Sure, but it should be only some public interest organisations clearly defined as registered charities, research companies, registered political parties and educational institutions. Anyone else can contact you only if they legitimately obtained your number from you voluntarily or in the course of doing previous business with you. Just about anything else i've got since registering has been a scam call ["Telstra" - 'There's a problem with your internet' or "Microsoft" - 'There's a problem with your computer' and suchlike]. Because i'm a pr!ck at heart and like a bit of fun those types end up hanging-up on me though.

Every now and then i'll get a legitimate marketing call that sneaks through. But only like one or two a year and they don't call back when i politely and firmly say "I'm on the register and please remove my contact details". If the 'randomly generated' excuse flies because the relevant authority [Australian Communications and Media Authority] is too scared to take on the Australian Marriage Equality for breaching the Do Not Call guidelines then a precedent is set and they'll not go well trying to prosecute marketing organisations using the same excuse. The ACMA recently fined a Brisbane-based holiday promoter over 300 grand in total primarily for making about 5,000 calls to DNC registered numbers. A pandora's box maybe will open for all the telemarketing companies if the ACMA squib taking on the AME for sending maybe hundreds of thousands of SMSs so I'm keen to see how this pans out.

I'm a realist. This is my prediction: In the immortal words of Bobby Riggs: No offense!

Unfortunately in this country the DNCR does not apply to SMS messages.

I'm sure there must bulk "YES' voters out there that would love to rescind and change their option.
In hindsight I should have posted my Facebook status as: "I've blown the head gasket on my 1997 XR3i" rather than "I've just buggered a 14 year old escort".
The police still haven't seen the funny side, my lap top's been confiscated and the wife has gone off to her mum's.
