Default XTS2500 AN and channel announcement

I picked up a XTS 2500 AN model, and have been trying to re-flash for channel announcement. I don't see it listed in the drop down menu and when I pick a supposed valid flash with it in it the software barks not valid flash. I have seen channel announcement in the XTS2500 in many U-Txbe videos, is it a matter of a newer firmware to make it work, as the radio now has 9.05 in it.

Second question goes with above, which 2500 firmware package CVN's are for AN and BN.

After more research I may have found that BN models only are capable due to larger memory. Does that mean I cannot upgrade the firmware above 9.05. I see the 20.00 versions are much larger.

Still should be able to activate voice announcements on an AN model. The AN model firmware is capped at 9.05. In the CPS tree go to radio wide and under the default tab it opens in scroll down and make sure that the voice announcement box is checked and set priority to low.

The XTS2500, unless it is an EARLY EARLY model does not need channel announcement enabled in the flashcode for it to operate. It was primarily a standard option with the 2500's, not so much however with the XTS5000's which had to be flashed with the channel announcement option.

As for your firmware question, even if you are using the newest firmware revision that motorola put out (20.50.05/07) it will only upgrade the firmware in a AN model to Ver 9.XX, nothing higher. What you have is a radio with a 4 Meg Vocon (AN Model), the BN model radios have a 8 Meg Vocon, the same as the XTS5000, thus allowing for more options, channels, internal data space.

I have had an AN model with channel announcements on it.

    1. Make sure that under radio wide you have the channel announcement box clicked and set priority to low.

    2. Here is a video to help if you need to create voice files from scratch.

    3. I use to create the files. They come out in MP3 format so they have to be converted to .wav

    4. I use to convert MP3 to .wav

    5. And finally to change the bit rate of the .wav file

    Hope this helps

Best free voice I've heard so far, thank you.

Winamp will auto convert mp3 to wav using custom settings. You'll need to get an older version, since it's discontinued... Select 'disk writer' as the output and it'll batch convert everything in the playlist.

I was bummed when the AT&T site went down. I stumbled upon this and have made every voice file I may ever need incase this site goes down.

FYI, AT&T Natural Voices was sold off to Wizzard Software and is still available here:
