From 6 PM tonight, ABC will be showing "Classic Countdown" for the next 13 weeks with each episode covering each year Countdown was on air.
Countdown got a lot of local and international acts the recognition and fame they have now.

Show your kids what music actually was !
Now we have about 4 artists that cover 70% of music. Bieber, Swift, Sheeran, Perry.
UGGGhhh........oh for the days of seeing bands in pubs like The Sunnyboys, Mondo Rock, Models etc etc. What a shit world we live in musically.

Here is a couple you will definitely see, most of the 70's Countdown tapes were taped over.
Anyway, I better stop I am hoping they have something that I don't have (all the above are from my Youtube Channel)

Trust the ABC to be arseholes and put stupid pop up quote boxes on the videos.
It was also interesting to see the video quality. It was stated "The original episodes have been lovingly and meticulously restored". Copies I have of most of those performances are of better quality, which suggests the ABC's tape collection is degrading fast. Its amazing we pay them a billion dollars a year and they cant digitise their archives with it.
The strange thing is that I have one of the 1975 episodes and I only recorded it a year ago....from the ABC. It was when Countdown co-creator and executive producer Michael Shrimpton died. I had a go at Rage via their Facebook page and embarrassed them enough that they played some early episodes.
They played some of the clips from that episode last night and they are definitely worse quality than what was played a year ago. Either the tape has deteriorated in 12 months, or they have separate copies of clips that are of worse quality. I have never seen them play those clips on Rage.
I regularly try to get them to play more Countdown and older rarer stuff as at least then people will record it and copies will exist at that quality.
Didn't realise you had a you tube channel admin, that is a fantastic archive. Great songs.

Thanks mate, yeah, I just hate seeing history destroyed and unfortunately in Australia it seems its something we are proud to do.
In Sydney and Melbourne we have bulldozers flattening beautiful Victorian and Edwardian homes so rich Chinese can build their own crap prefabricated junk. We now have loony leftists trying to have our statues pulled down......I go on for half a page but dont want turn this thread in to too much of a political one.
However the ABC as most know is now some sort of defacto loony left agency and the one billion dollars we pay them a year is blown on absolute shit. I constantly hound Rage to play more Countdown, or even clips from it, but they are more interested in playing unknown crap. I have been trying to get them to play Mondo Rock's performance of "No Time" on Rage as it appears on a Countdown episode that was hosted by Gary Glitter which will never see the light of day. My wife doesn't like the fact that I use her Facebook account to do all this
My Youtube channel for anyone interested in Australian 70's, 80's and some 90's and Countdown performances.
Thats an interesting collection of stuff you have pheggie on yours.
Finally just got down to watching the first episode on iview and loved it.
Personally I don't mind the captions, the BBC use them on their specials and I enjoy the trivia and learning something I didn't know about the artist. But the voice-overs are really distracting, and I hope going forward they won't do the "news of 197*" but I'm sure they will......
Why can't they just follow the BBC model and have the songs - with the exception of the Molly clips as he IS Countdown - and less dribble. My other pet hate is 30 second clips of songs. Get rid of those and the fluff and you could fit another 2-3 songs in.
But I still loved it
I'm sure if trash see's this he'll be impressed

1978 last night.
if you missed it, you can see it on iView, a couple of songs from it are below on my Youtube Channel.
I wish I could go back to 1978, simpler times a million miles away from the tosspot world which we now have.
