    Default Washer bottle soap

I went to Supercheap today to buy a sponge and some detergent to put in my car's windscreen washer bottle.
I got a bit of a shock when I saw the price of the detergent in relation to its use.
I think the cheapest concentrate was around $7. The directions told me I would only get about 4 fills with it. Gotta be kidding ! ... That'd be like $7 a month, $84 per year just for the windscreen....crikey.

Is there any reason I couldn't use a few drops of Palmolive dish washing liquid instead ?

That's all I've been using for years (except not that actual brand).

Haven't had any issues with it affecting paint/trim/rubber at all.

Works well removing bugs & road grime.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Strangely enough water does the job, at least in Australia.
I was warned that additives destroy 'rubber' seals in the washer motor, the screen seals and the wiper blades so I just use water.
I used to put dishwashing liquid and some metho (because I lived for years in a place with subzero temperatures) and it never damaged the wipers or any rubber I am aware of, but who knows what type of material they use these days for the seals.

Ah yes, the seals, well I would not use metho for that reason.
I did notice some of the windscreen detergents had glycol added.

When we do the washup at home, we don't teatowel dry, just rinse and leave on the dish rack to dry. No lint, no suds, no contamination, no taste and streak free.
We always use palmolive since it cleans the best and works out far far cheaper because you really only need a few drops. The bottle lasts for months. (crikey sounds like an ad)
I have heard before that using the wrong stuff might cause rust but I don't think DW liquid would be a problem. Should be a good lube for the wipers too.

Dish washing liquid (detergent) for me.

I've been using it for many years without any problems.

As a bonus, using dish washing liquid means it will be safe to eat off the windscreen.

I have added metho to the water in the washer bottle along with various types of detergents over the years and depending just how thick the crud is on the screen, they have all done as good a job as each other.
It wont be the first time I have forgotten to put water in the bottle and had drive in the rain to get the windscreen wet enough to run the wipers due to the built up muck.

I usually use bars bugs and only use a cap-full in a 9ltr washer bottle so lasts a long time.

The stuff I mentioned in post #1 is Bars bugs.
What I read on the bottle it's supposed to be 75ml per 4 litres.

I only use 1 or maybe 2 capfulls in my car which is just enough to assist in cleaning the screen.

I dont care about spiders squatting in the mirrors unless they want to come and join you in the car when your driving. This was a problem years ago when you had the windows down on a Summers day (pre A/C).

If their a problem, one idea is to keep a can of spray near where the car is parked if possible and spray into the gap before driving off to chase therm out.
Maybe the residue will keep them away altogether and stop them spinning their webs in there.
