For home use now we buy el cheapo with a 12 month warranty.

When buying a commercial machine, I would look to ease of service, availability and cost of items that you can reasonably expect wear out during its life.

We own a Kirby which is totally bulletproof and a Dyson, both have their strengths.

You can find a good vacuum once you have reached escape velocity from our planet for a few hours.

I also use an old Kirby that I found in a garage sale for $5.
Needed a lot of polishing and TLC but the bits are still available on Ebay.
None of this modern rubbish works as well and they all replace innovation with brute power these days, as if unlimited electricity was free, well it might be one day for some but until then I see no point in trying to create a vacuum with a 2000W motor when the old Kirby does it much better using only 400W the way it "seals' itself with carpet (provided you always adjust it correctly.

I have had a Dyson and wasnt impressed with it....and it blew up just out of warranty.

Bought a Miele and the difference is huge in regards to suction. And price is about half of Dysons.

if its for commercial then only ones to spend money on are the hacko's
    backpack and tenant uprights.

if its for home pft plenty toys around.
