    Default 3G Questions

As mentioned in another thread I have the "option" to connect to FTTN. Given the bad media surrounding NBN I am considering going wireless. Currently I have a 3G Sim and an unbeatable plan so:

    1. When will 3G be turned off?

    2. Email providers, either paid or free, some info please.

I can't imagine 3G being switched of in the immediate future. 4G and it's variants are still all relatively new, even with 5G being tested. Not to mention the 2G network has only just been switched off...

As for email providers, what are you after exactly? I use live.com (part of the microsoft network) as my personal email. I've used googles option for business (or my domain) email which worked fine for me - but it depends on what you want to achieve from your email I guess...

If I go the wireless route I will need to be able to send/receive emails. i want nothing to do with the Microsoft/Googles/et al in this world.

Don't be deterred by so-called 'bad press'.

People who are satisfied generally have nothing to say...it's only those with problems who are most vocal.

I have NBN FTTN and am extremely happy with it.

3G has been turned off in my area for a year or so now and is being slowly turned off nationwide in well-populated areas. See some of the links returned by .

Well there you go, Telstra is looking at 2020 for the closure of the 3G network... I wouldn't be too worried for a end user as unless the turns to complete knobs I'm sure their next plans and devices will be handed out cheaply or free upgrades before then. The only time it hurts is for those who either designed or purchased dedicated equipment using that technology. i.e. me, who designed and built a dedicated product for several clients based on the GSM network...

As for the email, I've no idea what extra you are trying to achieve or what the problem is with those providers. I guess you can organise your own email server, or pay a company like CrazyDomains (can't see how they are any different though).

The problem with Microsoft and Google is they collect one's personal information and then sell it to advertisers.

Google started it. Apple, Facebook and more recently Microsoft, realised it was a money spinner and commenced doing the same thing.

Plenty of sites have reported on this for years e.g. the links returned by .
