    Default Enclosure boxes (project box)

Made myself an electronics kits but i cant seem to find the right enclosure box for it as i have specific width that must be met. The dimensions are (h,w,d) 125, 77 or 78, 30mm. I can only allow a tollerance of 1mm for the width. Anyone encountered such a problem with any success? Reason for only 1mm is that i need to drill the box for serial port openings on both ends.
    BTW budget is $20.

No, but what is it? Is that HDD underneath? you got my curiosity up...

Have you thought about maybe pulling one of the serial connectors offboard and cabling it in so it does fit in a standard box? probably wont achieve the look/function you are after...
    Comfortably numb...
And NO, Google is NOT my friend...

You might have a lot of trouble finding an enclosure. Maybe a external hard drive enclosure might work, or make one yourself.

    Default ABS box

Had a very quick look at some catalogues,
Jaycar may have one that might fit.
    It's 150 x 80 x 30. a little longer (15mm) than you need but the width should fit. Cat No HB-6034 about $11.00
Only problem, would be cutting out the holes on either side rather than the ends.

Curious (hehe), yeh that is a hdd underneath with a usb adapter attached. Above it is a separate kit for diagnosing and coding bmw's. I have to space the parts with some foam or rubber when i find an enclosure. On one end is a 15 pin connector and on the other end is a 9 pin connector with 4 led module and a switch. A hdd enclosure is a perfect fit but not enough depth.
MrScaussie yeh i saw that at jaycar and im leaving that as a plan B.

Have a look at Hammond Enclosures They manufacture a large range of enclosures. If you see something thats appropiate speak to Aztronics, I think they're agents for Hammond products

GavinSV, your a champ . Found a bunch of enclosures with a width measurement of 78mm. I started to make my own enclosure out of fibreglass, but as it was my first go at laying fibreglass it seems that i might just have to give up and buy this enclosure from Hammond instead.

Farnell also carry a lot of Hammond gear, but you'll pay a bit more than A.Z's

Just in case you ever need to know, you can actually make a very strong plastic material out of disposable shopping bags.

You pile up layers of them between some baking paper, and iron it. What you end up with is a REALLY hard plastic that can be heated and bent into any shape while it's hot. Excellent for prototyping plastic devices or 1-offs.

For this project, you could make up a sheet of plastic around 2mm thick, heat it up and then press it into a wooden box the right size for your board.

Wow, that's George, what a good idea. I saw on TV years ago, some joker making plastic legs for amputees in a third world country. The was using plastic bottles and some solvent. Wish I could remember what the solvent was. Any idea?

    Probably acetone.

When I was a kid we used to make napalm out of styrofoam and petrol. set it on fire and flick it at each other, onto trees, etc..
