very easy so far,use newer form of modulation, add multistreaming then increase symbol rate beyond normal range
Absolutely; Home theatre hell $$$ just by 2300 bit rate increase excludes all the everyday consumer devices' / methinks it has some deeper reason too.

Everything on VAST should be unencrypted; Whoever thought of that system I wonder?

    Well "best of" with this.

BTW: ABC on D3 / 12177MHz are in clear (Foxtel); Proviso no EPG other than current and next program, ABC1 all time zones, 2 and 3 are SE only.

Currently trialling a UEC for emergency home theatre continuity (probably will be sent to local council e-waste) and a VU+ DUO2.

Octagon and Ultraplus boxes are claimed to work, as per this thread:

Foxtel ABC channels have been in the clear for a very long time.

But they dont advertise it, do they ?
I was thinking that one of the reasons for VAST being encrypted was to prevent any copyright material being received outside the area (Australia) where it is permitted to be seen.
In a way that idea doesnt stand with the ABC broadcasting in the clear unless it shouldnt be.
Perhaps back when the idea of creating VAST to replace Aurora was under discussion, the Gold Cards to Pirate Subscription TV (Foxtel) were available at near any Pub or Coffee shop, 'The Powers that be' decided to go 'for Broke' and introduce a system which we now know as VAST.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Vast was put in place to line up the pockets of Irdeto and Optus using taxpayers and viewing audience money, supposedly to protect regional stations advertising revenue. in other words audience in WA regional would only see WA stations and their advertisements. The other excuse was that it help enforce the 24 hours post state election media blackout.

Nowadays TV and Radio channels are streaming on the net and so it become irrelevant. Ch 9,ABC,SBS are viewable FTA anyway. WIN TV legal challenge against Ch9 for streaming live into their licensed broadcast zone was dismissed.

The UltraPlus X-1000HD+ also available from Mediastar (INGLEBURN NSW 2565)

    also email: 888@mediastar.com.au

(Also I can confirm the Octagon SX-88 will not scan in the ABC or SBS i.e symbolic rate only goes to 46000 not up to 47300)

Specs show symbol rate only up to 45000Ms/s. Is that enough to lock in ABC and SBS on D1?

Perhaps someone with one of these boxes can post a screen capture of the ABC and SBS channels actually working ....... please! :-)
