Yeah, i'm the same with jumper ants, meant to have tablet with me at all times
    I don't though.

Never in my almost 50 years have been stung by a Bee, the doctors seem to think i'll have the same reaction as the jumper ant.

Bee's seem pretty smart though, i was sitting outside a mates house, he had all these Bee's going in and out of hole in brickwork (where a plumbing pipe came out)
There was obviously a hive inside his ceiling cavity.
So we got up and siliconed the crack closed (while the bees where flying around) they didn't seem to care less
Then we sat back down and watched!!!

More Bees, then more bees, then even more bees landed and were looking for the way in
Soon it was a full beard of Bee's hanging off his house, like a 1ft beard!

My mate decided he didn't like the bees, walked over and smashed the beard of bee's with a broom....

Hmmmmmmmmm this is where things changed very quickly!

The swarm all dispersed from the impact into a dark cloud about 800mm x 800mm, then targeted my mate as he ran passed me flat out!!!
About 5 Bee's swung around took a look at me then continued with the mob attacking my friend that whacked them, until he could find the front door of his house.
He ended up with multiple stings, some in his ear!

    Ended up in Hospital.

The bee's did nothing to me.... smart cookies

Sad story about the gardener, a friend of mine got repeated bee stings whilst out in the field at work and ended up in hospital. Lucky for him he was with a work gang so there was people about to take him straight to hospital.

I grow vegetables such as pumpkins and encourage the bees for pollination but keep my eyes open and avoid disturbing them. Wasps are even worse.

Like they say, Australia is populated by myriads of 'Nasties' who appear to actively seek out victims and its incidences like these are warning to us all to take precautions.

Apart from being eaten alive by Mossies when I was a kid in Sydney in the 50's (I thought Citronella was a perfume) the only other time I have been bitten was when I stirred up a Red Bull Ants nest at a Relatives home at Pennant Hills when I was 4 or 5 and they swarmed to nip me on the feet and ankles. I think was wearing either a pair of those old style sandshoes on or a pair or Sandals, enough bare skin for them to bite so I would remember never to do it again.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

With wasps, wait till dark and they're all sitting on the nest. Then get a can of fly spray and a ciggy lighter and fry them all in one go.

You do realise, Gordon, that the are imports. The native bees don't sting. But we do have a lot of things that do bite and sting.

Probably came here illegally on a boat

Bites and stings are not much fun.

My inlaws country property has some ant nests that are seriously big. Go anywhere near them and they swarm out and attack. There are also smaller better disguised ones closer to the house.

My father in law died last December and after the funeral the wake was at their property. I was talking to my wife's cousin outside when all of a sudden he screamed " Shit, arrrgghhh !" and started doing a a dance and ripped off his pants in front of everyone.

Being used to the place, I have a habit of shuffling my feet a lot.......if you don't, they just walk up your leg. He copped a heap of them up his trouser leg (slacks because of funeral, easy access for them) and was in some serious pain.

Yep that's a good one. My technique was to creep up on them with a can of WD40 and give them a good squirt, they drop down dead. Electrician's I know always have a can of WD40 for when they go near nests on outdoor lights they are servicing.

Our problem was green ants. You would get used to them after a while, but their bite is enough to surprise you first few times. If you disturb their nest, look out! If you feel hungry, you can, at least, get some of your own back, their bum has a nice bite (flavour) to it.

May I ask, how do you get to eat them if they are about to sink their fangs into you ?

You ignore the fangs and bite their bum off.

    Not fair.....I demand action

Thanks, guess you would have to be pretty quick, I would keep a pocket knife handy. No green ants around my area so will have to wait till I go upto Queensland where I believe there are a lot of them.
