I cant believe the idea is just so simple
Passive Propagation... That's it. No power needed.

I can understand how the mobile phone might receive well, but the Tx side still baffles me a bit.

The same principle applies for TX as RX.... parabolic reflector (the dish) with the antenna (in the phone) placed at the focal point (on the post).

It works exactly like an LNB would on a dish.

The only difference is the antennas are not directional, (only the dish is directional) so there will be some drop in signal efficiency.

I guess i keep thinking the Sat Internet Dish set up, where the LNB is quit large and has 2 Coax's

Yes, great way of explaining it mtv... The mobile phone is the LNB

We're going a tad OT here, but... 2-way satellite has an LNB for receive and a BUC (Block Up Converter) for transmit with a coupler on a common feedhorn.

The largest part is the BUC as it houses the electronics and RF power amp for the microwave transmitter.

The two coax cables are one for RX, the other for TX.

That pic looks odd... it's unclear if that flat panel is another reflector, which it seems to be, otherwise the two dishes are facing different directions.

That could possibly be explained if they are pointing to different towers.

They could even be for different carrier networks.... try both and use the one that works, or has the better signal with your phone.

I agree, it does look odd, yet the fact that dish in the forward of the pic is facing upwards.... makes you think its getting a bounce of the that board?
Yet, why wouldn't they just spin that forward dish around?
    Who knows...

Is there a Mobile Tower located in the area and this is being reflected by the dish to the Red Pole Focal point?

Just as a matter of interest, my Skymuster satellite internet only uses a single cable (camouflaged, I kid you not) between the Modem and the dish unlike the Ipstar version that used 2 cables, one for Rx and the other for TX.

Look again closely. Both setups are actually pointing to the same source.
The square reflector is pointing in the same direction as the dish behind it.
It is directing the signal to the dish in front of it because that dish is pointing upwards towards it and not in a line towards a terrestrial cell tower.

What interests me more is that huge dish pointing straight up to the sky and another downwards in the back ground. Where is this place?

It has to point to the 'mirror' that is why it is the 'wrong' way around.
Maybe gets better results or they just want to be creative.

You did not answer where you got that pic.

The caption says '50kms South of Alice Springs and in a few other areas'.

That dish in the background looks like one of those used for Deep Space .

Hence my interest. Learjet would probably be able to identify it.
