I guess the world is full of them, Landcruiser's running around everywhere and its not like they just die.
All have lots of k's on them and still going just fine.

To be honest and as a landcruiser owner, not telling you what to do mate, but when it comes to timing on a FTE I highly recommend you use the genuine parts, those tensioners are a critical part, cheap aftermarket parts like that are common failures ending up with a destroyed engine, and you know $90 extra is a small price to pay for genuine part and theres the thought as your driving along without having to worry weather a aftermarket part is going to fail!

Just rang local Toyota Dealer, spoke to Spare Parts guy
(an older chap, in the game for years, has awards for his work plastered on the wall)

Said he would have no hesitation using a Dayco Kit or Genuine Parts.
Very interesting hearing that from a Toyota Dealership!

He has been in the game 40 years, said he has never heard of a Dayco belt being the cause of an engine failure.
And that they have sold 1,000,000's of kits.

In fact, he looked up online to could tell me the local Burson's had a kit (Dayco) in stock, from his Toyota Spare Parts terminal.

The sad part, Toyota didn't have the parts in stock.
Had the belt, but nothing else.

He did say he wouldn't fit a "Motorcraft" kit or belt though
He also said the Genuine filters are a different story!

Dayco or Gates belts wont be an issue, my comment was referring to the tensioner, the cheap ones do fail

Have you also considered replacing the water pump whilst you do the belt? it will be a lot easier to do while you have it apart, and just a added security to know a new pump is fitted
