Geoffrey Sues the Daily Telegraph for Defamation
A News conference has just been held with Geoffrey Rush announcing his is suing the Daily Telegraph for Defamation.

I have no idea what the allegations were about, but I can imagine. It's about time the media was called to account for its cavalier attitude to "news".
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
There has to be more to this as the actual allegations were not made by the Telegraph but by the Sydney Theatre Company, the Telegraph and a number of other news services reported these allegations and as such cannot be sued for doing so - the Sydney Theatre Company yes but not the news agencies.
However I suspect that in true Telegraph fashion the allegations were embellished to include other aspects that were not alleged by the STC and this is the basis of the defamation case. Interestingly the STC is not being sued.

Actors, despite their popularity can suddenly enter that mystical place called 'Resting' and languor there indefinitely so it may not be good politics to make any comments about such an august body (the Sydney Theater Company or STC) unless there is no other option but while you may well win the battle, the War is another matter.

Good on him.
Whether he is guilty or not, I have no idea. But he has been publically accused of a crime, based on an alleged complaint that is unknown to everyone including him, from an unknown person.

So who made the original complaint to the STC ??
Its easy for the media to make sensational news and then walk away leaving someone with their life in ruins.
Hope he wins his lawsuit.
Hope he cracks them for a heap of money. Haven't read that "rag" (said with venom) for many years. I agree with garrycol in they embellish stories. It's typical of that rag.
