Default SSM Vote brings relief for one couple in Perth

Perth couple poised to become first in Australia to file for same-sex divorce
    see

Couple of women got married in Perth a while ago at a consulate in Perth under the laws of a European country where same-sex marriage was already legal. They had a change of heart and wanted a divorce, but they couldn't divorce under Australian law, because their SSM was not recognised under Australian law, and they couldn't get divorced under the laws of the country that celebrated their marriage, because they were not residents there, they were stuck in limbo.

Now that SSM is legal in Australia, they can file for divorce here.

    Ever heard of anything crazier?

Regrettably this isnt the first where people will want to separate for numerous reasons which is why serious counseling is needed to ensure people arent being swept away in the all the hype and fervor to enter into a SSM 'because all their Friends are' or 'Its the IN Thing to do'.

Unfortunately those opposed to SSM's will use this to point out why it should never have been considered in the first place but I hope and believe in time those seeking a SSPartner will take their time and 'court' one another as M/F couples have done for centuries.

Seems somewhat of a double-standard if the foreign consulate had the power to marry them, but can't divorce them.

I also see no difference with SSM in regard to divorce.... marriages break down and partners wish to divorce... one thing I guess that's identical to hetero marriages.

One thing's for certain.. the legal profession has double the divorce income potential.

I guess it's a bit like being bi-sexual... it automatically doubles your chances of a date on Saturday nights.

Which one gets 85% of everything?
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
