    Moved to general Chat.

The story quotes the fine as $1,177.

Actually, the per km rate is higher if you calculate it only on the speed above the permitted limit of 110.

Based on an excess speed of 105kph the fine works out to around $11.21 per km.

Impressive pursuit to catch up to it.

A disaster waiting to happen by another bullet-proof P-plater.

Not too sure what your specifically referring too as I can’t find any reference there to $1721.

    I think I get where you’re going, but wouldn’t it be $1177/105kph = $11.20p/km ??

Some years ago a local magistrate got fed up with the fines generally levied for speeding so he adopted a simple scale of either adding 1 or 2 Zeros for every 10 kph or part there of to the fine.
I think the minimum was a $100 plus Court costs.
Back then this was a big amount.
I feel sure here in NSW the penalties are far greater than those shown in Queensland.
I think it starts at an Automatic Loss of license for being XXX over the posted limit either for a fixed period or one set by the Courts, Loss of points (allocated 12 points) maybe loss of vehicle, if not it should be.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!

Loss of car and liberty for this if he were near a built up area, further out, then, perhaps a fine should be appropriate. I've travelled 1000s of miles on outback roads, and some of them would be best travelled as quickly as safely possible. That said, as a P plater he needs to gain a little more experience before he tries a stunt like this. FWIW the fastest Iever did travel was 180kph in the Territory, and only for a short time, my average speed including fuel and food stops was 100kph between Darwin and Adelaide, which usually meant sitting on about 130kph for most of the way.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
