    Default Wireless NAS

Any recommendations for a wireless NAS box? I want to sit the thing on a cupboard over the other side of the room. Two trays for up to 8gb each should be sufficient.

I have been using a QNAP with 4 x 4mb drives for some years now, and have been very happy with it. It is not itself wireless but will take a wireless dongle. I ended up putting Toshiba drives in it as the cheaper WD's and Seagate drives were not recommended. I have steered clear of Samsung drives for years after a number of drive failures at my business years ago. If you just want storage you won't go wrong with an older QNAP or Synology. Both brands also have versatile OS's with various network services and software available which makes them very versatile devices with functions far beyond simple storage. Their web servers make implementing various server based programs fairly easy. The latest generation of NAS devices seem to use Intel rather than ARM chips and implement virtualization, which make them enormously powerful, particularly if combined with docker. If you don't want an appliance type device there are a number of open source NAS software packages which are very powerful indeed and run on a normal PC. Depends very much on what you want to do.

I just want some secure backups of some stuff...(no AL, not porn).

Wireless seems the best bet for me with grandkids running about all over the place and seeming to zero in on cables like magnets.

If speed isn't a major requirement, you can set up a raspi 3 B+ (integral wireless and bluetooth) with OMV. The only downside is the drive interfaces are USB2, not USB3 but the NAS software is well featured and overall it's excellent for the cost.
