    wrong digit should read 80 sorry, i know that they will take up to 100 channels

    no as per std 80ch 1-8 duplex,9-30 simplex,40 simplex,42-48 duplex,49-80 simplex and minus obviously repeater and data channels.

    Perhaps I am blind but I can't find anything in the thread to indicate whether these units are TM8115 (mobile) or TP8115 (portable/handheld).

    I had the same original thought, but then assumed 'power connection and mic' fitted the description of a mobile more than a portable, but yes, the full model number with TM or TP would make it clearer.
