Default Huawei Mate 10 pro Review........

Note: this is the dual sim enabled Asian model (Singapore), Aussie models are single sim - probable because of our anal telcos.......
I suspect a reflash to asian firmware would enable the second sim on the aussie models available from optus etc.

I recently upgraded from the mate 9 pro and have been running the mate 10 pro for a couple of weeks.

main differences are bigger battery, faster processor and ai co-processor.
this thing is really fast, particularly when upgrading multiple apps via the playstore, it whips through them...

battery life is very good, i use mine a lot as a business phone and can easily get 2 days out of it running both sims on 4g.
i dont facebook etc, so facetards can expect a bit less......

has the huawei supercharge system which will charge the 4000ma battery from flat in under an hour, which makes up for no wireless charging.
A 12/24v mobile super charger is available.

it has no headphone socket, but comes with a usbc to 3.5mm adasptor, they can also be had on ebay for $5...

it also has the latest leica dual lens 20mp camera, which i find is excellent.

fingerprint sensor is on the back, below camera lenses, very easy once you get used to the idea.

Android pay works fine with my westpac credit card....

reading through online reviews, I suspect most of them havent even seen one, but cut and paste from other reviews as they all make the same mistakes and omissions.
they harp on about no expandable memory like the base mate 10 has, but neglect to mention the pro has dual sim capability instead.
with 128gig on board i suspect most users of a pro model would prefer a second 4g sim option rather than micro sd capability.
the same reviewers who harp on about 'legacy' connections etc., complain about no headphone port and neglect to mention it comes with a usb-c to 3.5mm adaptor.

one of the interesting features is the ability to set up multiple profiles on the phone. these can be accessed automatically via fingerprint login if desired. ie: left hand index finger for work profile and right hand index finger for personal profile.

it also has the ability to automatically go into 'desktop mode' when plugged into a usb-c to hdmi adaptor, and if adaptor has usb ports a standard keyboard and mouse can be used. perfect for the business traveller......
obviously you can also go the more expensive route of a fully fledged docking station for around $150......

much has been promised by huawei about the ai co-processor, but time will tell on that i suppose.

It comes with Android 8 oreo and huawei emui interface. The emui interface does take some getting used to, but no worse than switching from iphone to android etc.
It also updates over the air in au, unlike the mate9 pro i purchased in Malaysia. i had to update via funky huawei or go back to malaysia.

perhaps they are listening to their customers.....

Some photos from last night's concert, extremely difficult to get good shots with a proper camera let alone a phone.....

I actually ended up getting the WhoWhy Mate 10 (not Pro).

I almost missed it because I originally thought is was just a downgraded Pro version.
    It is not!
It is actually better and yet cheaper and the camera is identical to the Pro.
Better is the higher screen (pixel)resolution, a proper 16:9 screen (hate these unpractical bar phones) and most important it has a proper Audio jack so I can attach my high end headphones or other hardware without searching for fiddly and possibly lossy adaptors that I keep loosing.
It also has an external SD slot so I got now 384GB of offline memory. No data stealing/mining cloud-shit here thanks.

As for the Chinese stealing your privates, I just never even touch the apps that come with it. I always have better alternatives, well I use totally different stuff anyhow. I am not the social/sharing type. Wifi/Data is rarely on which keeps things nice and clean.

First thing I did when I got the phone was side load the Total commander(I don't have a Google account either).
Then developer options -> no background processes. Then on with my hundreds of 'trusted' APKs, well I trust them because I never use them when I am connected to the net, except the latest DuckDuckGo Browser(not a typo) and Viber(well if I have to be social then at least point to point encrypted).

Great is that the App Permissions can all be selectively blocked nicely with this Phone. Couldn't do that with my Asus.
Haven't figured out to how root it yet, not sure if I need to ATM.

Anyway very happy with my purchase and see no need to buy any 'newer' model.

I certainly don't miss the fact that I can't swimm in the pool with it. I am still capable of being AFP (Away From Phone) for 20 minutes, unlike my daughter.

Edit: Also got this very practical flappy jacket for it:

Was skeptical if it really works, but it is fantastic and looks very smooth too. No more fiddling around with the side on/off button and the instant side display with time and date when you flap it slightly, even with one hand is almost as quick as looking at a wrist watch.

Although the screen is higher resolution, its lcd while the pro has an oled screen with far better contrast ratios.
you'll find that by default the phones will automatically lower the resoulution until required to save power.
the pro also has 128 gig of storage and 6 gig of ram, as well as dual 4g sim capability instead of sd card.

depends on your priorities, for me i need the dual sim and extra ram.

The standard I have comes with 128GB of ram too + I added a 256GB SD card.

My priorty is to be able to have a lot of offline data and not be dependant on networks. Pretty sure most people in Australia do not really need dual 4G sims so it is really fantastic that Huawei still offers an upmarket phone with optional SD capacity, unlike some other sheeple fone companies.

The 2560 x 1440 resolution is always there, unless I adjust it lower in the setting or use the low power mode.
Believe it or not, I DO see the difference.
It is also pretty amazing with +4 magnifying reading glasses (you might find that out when you get older), not a hint of pixels. I haven't tried Google cardboard but I expect a pixelfree experience there too.
Contrast is excellent. I have to turn up the brightness until it hurts my eyes before I can see the black backgound of the supplied wallpaper(with the guitar) any different to the off-state in a totally dark room.

Yes, even my Tapatalk logins etc.
WiFi logins including your hotspot settings etc.
It copies all your screens and setup.

Only thing it doesn't copy is widgets for some reason, I had to manually set them up.

So is this the Huawei Mate 10 Lite? Thinking of a new phone for the daughter or maybe me and pass on the old Google Nexus 5 which is still going strong.

hmmm not sure if the lite works on the same bands. There is a mate 10 (not lite or pro) on the Huawei site but no lite.

seems you need a pro to get the 4gx of telstra's 700mhz band. But should be fine for optus and get all their 4g.

I've got a near new pro gathering dust in the office drawer.
Comes with original box and unused accessories.
I'll even throw in the Bluetooth sport headphones that came with the p20.
It was in a hard case all its life.
