I'd be looking at a fueling issue, perhaps fuel pressure regulator or check valve within the pump.
My Daughter has a starting issue with her commodore. The starter motor winds over for a lot longer that it should to start. I have replaced plugs, air filter and replaced collector and inlet manifold gaskets. When the car has been sitting for a long time (several days) it will start pretty good but when you want to restart later the starter winds over for a lot longer sometimes having to have 2 go's at it. After replacing the gaskets it started instantly but has gone back to as it was. Any suggestions as to what to look for? Just done 300,000kms

id be going with a pump issue , only way tell for certain is to put a pressure guage on it at the injector rail. Ive seen adaptors on ebay.
another way to check is to squirt Aerostart into the intake and see if the engine starts on that first kick. if it does then a fuel issue for sure.

You will be amazed what a diff a new battery makes! I buy sca cheapies then fully charge em about 6 hrs then test em for cca int res etc. Starts straight up. As cars age resistance increases eg steel rusts so bad Earth's etc. As to battery for Max life always keep fully charged.

I had the same problem with with my VZ Commodore.
A corroded strap connector at the starter motor. All fine now.

I'd punt on fuel pressure as stated by VroomVroom.
The fact that when it's hot/warm it has an issue suggests this to me as the pressure can lessen a tad with heat.
However, I'd be inclined to first check the connectors as Gulliver states as that is the simplest.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

It was the main cable from the battery to the starter motor.
