the news said it included some holden's but on the accc site there is no mention
of any holden car
This is a major event.....

You might of got mixed up with Honda as they have heaps of models that need to be done.
I was working at a dealership and we were doing lots of Honda's in 2014ish. This issue has been around for a while!
Isn't this about 2 years old?
Well a lot older when you look at some cases
March 3rd for the VIN's to be released.
Then is will be interesting
I know BMW did this 2 years ago
What if you take your Vehicle in, they deem it as one of the faulty ones, then tell you "we don't have stock" and prevent you from driving your car?

If u want to go on an expedition get a Land Rover, if u want to come home from an expedition get a Landcruiser!
You would think they have their recall lists sorted - my car is not any of the ACCC or Product Safety lists but is on the lists shown on TV. As usual a cluster .......

Hold the phone!
It seems the manufacturers have until April 2nd to respond with a complete list.....the ACCC list isn't finalised apparently.
I detect an early whiff of 'Australis Clusterf*ckis' from all concerned.

There seems to be a hell of a lot of information missing about this recall.
From a proper list of cars affected to who ends up paying.
Another government decision done on the fly and not thought out properly?...Surely not!
Who pays for this? As VroomVroom said, Takata went bankrupt last year when they realised the cost to replace them was more than the company was worth...It's now sold to Chinese owned but US based Key Safety Systems who will not be wanting to pay any debts from the previous owner.
That leaves the car makers who, through no fault of their own, used these dodgy airbags. They will not want to pay the multi millions required and I can see some major legal battles ahead getting them all to pay.
I'm getting the distinct feeling we are all going to end up paying for this directly or indirectly by either lifting the "Australia Tax" on new cars to generate higher profits for the car manufactures or via taxes if the government has to stump up some money.

I kind of see it this way.
A vehicle is made up of many parts, from many suppliers, but sold as a "whole"....
So, i see it as the Manufacturers issue.
As the sum of the many parts has made a new product, and that product was sold with its own warranty, to cover the product in its entirety.
Different to a Tradesman's installing parts in to a house as part of a job.
The tradesman is not selling a new product.
If the vehicles had a faulty fuel injection system (Denso) then the manufacturer would cover it
If the vehicle had a faulty Auto Transmission (ZF etc) then the manufacturer would cover it.... This is no different.
Will be interesting.
All our vehicles are safe (for now).... apart from the 2 Navara's the boys own.

Yep. They sure did.
I read a really good article on the whole saga. My abbreviated take on it was that Takata started using ammonium nitrate in their airbag inflators. This is much cheaper than the conventional explosives, but other manufacturers did not use it, because ammonium nitrate absorbs moisture over time and eventually becomes unstable. Takata claimed to have solved these problems... but they hadn't.
The use of cheap and nasty explosives allowed Takata to undercut the reputable manufacturers, quite a number of whom subsequently went out of business. As a result, the worldwide capacity to manufacture air bags is significantly lower than it was when Takata were in business - and now we need millions of new units in a hurry.
Early on, when Takata were still in business, they supplied wrranty replacement air bag inflators to the car manufacturers... but these still had problems, so some car makers are recalling the air bag units replaced in earlier recalls.
And nobody forced the car makers to choose to buy second-rate, cheap and nasty air bag inflators, when long-established players in the market were warning them about the potential problems with the Takata air bag inflators. The car makers chose the cheapest supplier... and now they are paying a high price for making a very bad decision.

330,000 Holdens.....close to 4 million total in Australia.

For people not sure where to find the VIN Number if youre car is registered in Victoria go here
and put in youre cars rego number, or if u are thinking of purchasing a second hand car u might want to check also
The VIN number is often stamped on the body on the left hand side of the windscreen, also on the compliance plate. Also On the right hand side sub frame if you can see down into the engine bay that far.
I stand unequivicably behind everything I say , I just dont ever remember saying it !!
And Rego papers...at least it is here.

One a side note, it's unrealistic for so many vehicles to be taken off the road as it is also unrealistic to expect dealers to give you a loan car. there just isn't that many to go round! You can only do so many airbag recalls a day because you are a business and have all your usual service work to carry out where you actually make $. We limited how many we did per day because there were so many!
...........Leroy
You'd think its an opportunity for a pop up workshop dedicated just for airbags.
Or Contract the work out to third party workshops around the country... like UltraTune etc
