It is amazing that a person such as Hawking can do so much with such a debilitating disability.
it irks me that there are so many members of society who are completely able bodied and who waste their life doing drugs/wasting away on the dole/etc. Such a shame we cannot switch the mind of someone like Hawking with the body of somebody who is wasting their life getting high each day.

It probably was a factor, OB, but I suspect that his mind was a little sharper than most. Given his stance on religion, it would be interesting to see if he can use his great intellect to work out a way to let us know if there really is a God, or not.
