Default google map/satellite bird finder misc & Q`s

hi, i have use the great feature of google bird finder thingo,

    now the questions.....

does the start point of the blue beam line that shows height and distance start from ground level (i presume so?)

if i mount the dish 3 mtrs above the ground then i presume i can just add 3mtrs to any height calculated by google.?

is it feasable to assemble a dish bit by bit up on the pole (i have roof access and ladder acces to the pole where it will sit)
or best to assemble on the ground and "hoist" up.

roughly how much does a dish weigh? (~2mtr solid)

    Thanks..

    G'day Cobber, Welcome,
Not quite familiar with the program you show, but I think this one is by the same author and the one he will continue to support.

The size of the dish that you mention would normally be used on the C Band. Most of these because of size are usually mounted at ground level or perhaps on a solid flat roof. Weight upwards of 60 Kg and wind loading for the larger dishes usually dictates ground level. There may be circumstances where you want it out of reach of sticky fingers.( Kids & Hoons).
You did not mention what the pole is. It needs to be substantial and plumb.
If you must have it at a height, would be easier to assemble and fine tune at ground and then hoist up. Make sure that you use a perfectly plumb (vertical in all directions) mast for setup and final installation.
Obstacle clearance is only given for geographic features, hills etc, not buildings or trees.
For the KU band, a 90 cm dish is more than adequate.
It depends on your latitude for the elevation angle which is about 50 degrees for Optus C1 from Sydney, becoming more or less zero for Sats on the E or W horizon. Here is where you would see the Sats in the Clarke Belt appearing as a parabola to our North.

If you need any further help, please feel free to ask.
Kindest Regards, " The Druid "..................................
