    Default Scanner Question

What type of scanner or brand and model do I need to listen to police in my area (nth Brisbane). I havn't had a scanner in nearly 15 years, but I know they use digital now.

If it's encrypted digital, like most states, you won't be able to listen to them, regardless of the type of scanner you use.

MTV is correct most metro police run P25 and are Encrypted. If you are lucky (like I am) you might be able to listen to the VHF police frequencies which are not encrypted (in Vic anyway).

NSW country are still analog VHF/UHF. So it's still good news for people in the bush.

QLD does not have a VHF system anymore and hasn't had one for 10 years

the Brisbane Metro NTH, STH, Oxley and Redlands are encrypted digital so you can't listen to those, However the areas just outside are analogue
Redcliffe/Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich(via the mt Glorious repeater on 468.750), Beenleigh and Goldcoast

search the 467.850Mhz to 469.425Mhz band in 12.5khz steps as there are some analogue freqs in the new narrowband radios

There are now 128 channels starting at CH 1 on 467.8375 though this channel is not used and not licenced to the QLD Police, (may be a buffer freq) so the first channel they use is CH 2
easy to work out the old to new channels by just doubling the CH number(eg. CH 18 is now CH 36)

    hope this helps
