sometimes they disconnect the cable in the box and put a terminator on the lead in from the street.

is it possible to remove the terminator or would you need advanced electrical knowledge?

If the cables disconnected, I assume I can open the isolation box and just reconnect it.

Should be relatively safe though either way right, as they're just signals and dont carry any dangerous current.

apparently you need a special tool to get the terminator off of the cable connector.

open the box an have a look to see what theyv'e done.

ah k thanks for that. Is it normal to be able to decode optus channels via a foxtel subscription?

My friend had optus and foxtel cable, we ended up getting a signal from an optus line.

Be really careful sometimes these lines have 10000Volts running thru them, they do it to kill unsuspecting thieves.

    Sensible questions deserve sensible answers!

There are no dangerous voltages on such cables.

telstra do not terminate what so ever the only time they may disconnect is if they do not have enough ports on there tap on the street.

the only people who terminate are optus and if you have something active such as internet and had paytv you should just have to go too the keptel(grey box on house) and simply remove the terminator.

if disconnected at CAU(white phone unit) if its there then good luck opening that without the correct tool.

no voltages on line, optus do have a power pair for there phone units but thats supposed to be disconnected if the phone units not there

Wink Foxtel iQ on Optus cable?

Would anyone know if you connect a Foxtel iQ with current live card on to a live Optus Broadband cable connection would you get pics? If so any disadvantages? i.e.: Would they know? For use at a second house occasionally with no Foxtel or Telstra connection. Cheers.

I'm told that it does work, try it and see, but remember there's no HD on Optus cable ATM.

    Wink

Thanks Macca, but the reason I'm asking is because I don't have a box to try, but I would like to know the answer.
