    Default Onkyo Tx-v636 Av Receiver

Onkyo TX-SV636 only working in Bypass mode. All DSP, prologic features have failed to work, according to customer.

checked connection, this one does not have any optical or coaxial connections at all, only has two chanels analogue inputs ( many many analogue inputs), not sure how to get 5.1 channels, any suggestion ???

Dolby Prologic is an Analog system. The surround channels are matrixed onto the left and right channels by the source and then decoded by the receiver.

Check the audio settings in the DVD player. If it is capable of outputting analog surround (not all are) there should be a setting for it in the menu.

    thanks Dr.ido
the DVD is either analogue output or 5.1 output
amp only has analogue input ( L & R channels ), so analogue sound from DVD going to amp and amp should generate surround channels ( is this correct ???) , but the amp only works on by-pass mode, not working on DSP mode nor Dolby Pro logic mode.

    something wrong within the amp...

It's hard to say without more information as I don't know that specific receiver.

Some analog surround receivers have a discrete input for an outboard Dolby Digital/DTS decoder. If this has been selected it will bypass the internal decoder. After ruling this and other setup problems out (missing pre/main jumpers, etc, incorrect settings, incompatible source) the first things I'd check is the surround amp. In many of these receivers a single STK series stereo amplifier IC is used for the center and rear channels (the rear channels are mono in Prologic). These often fail due to overheating and/or abuse.
