    Hi rastus86,

Most new DVD recorders from Pioneer, Panasonic, samsung or LG come with Digital tuners the more expensive ones like the latest Pioneer comes with a HD tuner ( and upscaling) and will fill most of your requirements. Most don't have a USB port however, they do have a mini usb for input from recording devices like cameras.

The current Medion HDD/DVDR from ALDI does all of the above except (no usb) it has an analogue tuner with 360Gb HDD, great unit. A good start is to visit your local suppliers like Harvey Norman just to get an idea of the different models and features, just don't buy it from them.

I have also heard that there is also a way of using a HD PVR then connect that to a DVD recorder to produce your DVD's, bit messy but gets the Job done.

    Cheers

Its the same with the early model LG's Weirdo. I've got one of them too and plays every other disc.

My advice is stay away from LG. They are ordinary units, no self install firmware on LG's website, Just a real waste of money.

I have a Samsung DVD-SH855 and it plays everything I throw at it, records on to everything I've thrown at it (Mind you I don't buy crap media) and while the USB port is a mini, the unit was delivered with a usb mini to standard USB adaptor.
Now admitidely the Samsung is at the lower end of the market, I suppose in both quality and price but to be honest I've not been able to fault it yet.

My Panasonic plays Dvd-r's no worrys, heaps of different brands, also divx - xvid avi's, its an older model with analouge tuner not digital,

Panasonic may a Dvd Recorder with HDD (250 / 320 /500 gig) and Twin HD Tuners, around the $900 mark

Yes, that was my main reason of buying the piece of crap Samsung.
It did copy the 8mm video tapes to dvd fine.
It wasn't till much later that I found out this thing had trouble playing dvd's. Even factory kids movies dvd's.

In my case it was a 8 mm video tape camera which I hooked up to the dvd recorder with rca leads to copy about 25 tapes that started deteriorating.
But yeah you could plug in anything really, even a standalone vhs player.
