    Default LCD Monitor problem

Have 2 Acer AL1912 monitors and there is a problem with one. It looks like "burn-in" but it isn't really that. Whatever is on screen for a while will leave a slightly discernible "ghost" image behind that lasts for a while. The length of "a while" is probably days, but haven't tried timing it.

Anyway one thing I have noticed is that when looking at the screen through polaroid glasses it darkens when the glasses are held vertical. Whilst on all other LCDs observed, the screen seen through the glasses darkens when the glasses are held at a 45 degree angle.

I'd have at a guess that this is something to do with the problem, but would it be an adjustable setting?
Has anyone worked on these before or had a similar problem elsewhere?

You're supposed to be able to fix/prevent LCD image persistence in the
same ways you would prevent burn in for CRTs.

Apple sold a particularly dodgy lot of LCD screens one year that suffered from
the problem in a big way, and they suggested using a plain white image as a
static screen saver with the screen brightness turned all they way down to
preserve the life of the backlight.

The situation with LCDs is never really supposed to be permanent though.

the polariod glasses thing is normal as a polarising sheet is used in the lcd, it has to or wouldn't work, the image retention prob may just be the ffc cable between the image pcb and the panel it's self, if you can replace it and see, if not you'll prob have to replace image/scaler pcb

Is there any significance in the different angle? All the LCDs I tried darken with the glasses at 45 degrees except this one.

is the 45 deg to the one side if so try the other side, the reason is if you go through 90deg the image should go from clear to very dark.

rattus, if you've got 2 then try swapping the scaler pcb, if you've still got the same prob then it's got to be the panel, if not then it the scaler (the scalers the one that has either a flat ribbon or multi core cable between it and the panel)
