You're supposed to be able to fix/prevent LCD image persistence in the
same ways you would prevent burn in for CRTs.
Apple sold a particularly dodgy lot of LCD screens one year that suffered from
the problem in a big way, and they suggested using a plain white image as a
static screen saver with the screen brightness turned all they way down to
preserve the life of the backlight.
The situation with LCDs is never really supposed to be permanent though.
