    Default Anyone using champix?

Can anyone rate the quit smoking pill Champix? i went to the doctors and
got a perscription for it, but now are unsure if i should use it, almost
everyone i talk to have said bad about it. A mate of mine discontinued use
in the first week, said it made him go "mental"
Really bad/weird dreams is something else i hear a lot of.

Yes im on them right now, another 4.5 weeks to finish the program.

Yes the first day i almost cleaned someone up....LOL and i was on only the weak starter dose.

No dreams but really bad moods, feeling violent, going off at a pin drop etc.

The good news is after a few weeks you body adjusts, you know what they are and what they will do to you so you can mentally prepare yourself and when you do feel like going off you know its the drugs and can pull yourself into line.

Tell your family, friends and work colleagues that your on them, let them read the brochure...pretty in your face information.

People have committed some pretty awful crimes on them, some even turned to self harm and suicide.

Its not as bad as you think, as long as you can control yourself.

Having tried patches and gum numerous times, i must say the pill works great, ZERO urge to smoke.

You take them for 2 weeks and within the second week you must stop.
At first you think their doing nothing but once you force yourself to stop you will notice you don't need a smoke...no urge full stop, no pain.

    The paper that comes with them.;
    http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcmed.nsf/pages/pfcchamt/$File/pfcchamt.pdf
    Read page4 under mental health.

Another interesting thing is the Govt subsidizes the program, its $20 to $30 per one month pack, the normal price on each pack is $245!
I was warned you have one chance on them. Fail and start smoking, the next time you need them you will have zero govt assistance and pay the full price.

I say do it, you wont regret it, just control yourself when you feel the urge to bust faces.

I had the same issues with Zyban.

Yes it gave me an afternoon mild headache - so what? Much better than smoking.

I was lucky as it worked for me so successfully, I was moving house and starting a new job at the same time as giving up.

No ciggies for 8 years now..

    Good on ya guys.

I gave up cold turkey 9 years ago. I found it easy because something triggered the need to give up. Not everyone can do that.

After 40 a day for 40 yrs I wonder why I never gave it up earlier.

Yep, on champix here - 4 weeks, all good. No smokes for 3 weeks.

First week had to adjust/control myself as godzilla said. After week 1 i found that smoking was doing nothing for me, so quit 1 week before my actual quit day.

Well thats great that others have had success, i will go for it,
just need to prepare first, spose it cant be any worse than
    smoking/wasting money on smokes.
The real test for me will be saying no to smokes when drinking.

    cheers

Mate, I've been a smoker for 37 years I thought I'd never be able to give it up but champix works a treat.

After a week on the pills or even sooner you won't feel like smoking anyway .. they don't taste the same .. might as well be smoking the paper coz you can't taste the bacy.

I actually find the worst for me is long distance driving, I'm so bored I smoke more. For the first couple of years try moderating the drinking more than usual, a few less will leave your self control able to function better. And the occasional slip up isn't the end of the world either, you just have to remind yourself of what your trying to achieve and get back on with it.

One thing i haven't mentioned.....um.....(whisper) a loss in sex drive.

No interest in smokes, drinks or slap and tickle. Yep a hot naked woman and id just yawn and say another time.

Maybe im really dead but just don't know it yet. LOL

Dont ask why, maybe it blocks all addictions.

Im sure ill come around once im off them.

I gave up the same way about 15 years ago. Similar habit butfor about 25 years. Got pretty snappy for a bit, but the missus and kids were undestanding.

Stick with it people...its worth it.

    Cheers

On a side note about other addictions i heard a report on the radio that Champix and the other brand has been proven to help alcoholics fight their addiction and may possibly be used as a treatment.

Give up my car racing addiction....never, but have noted i dont get the same buzz, and that goes for everything.

    Edit just found this;

Looks like they can add sex addiction to that list.

You need to change your train of mind all together.

Think hot, sexy nurses, short white dresses and unbuttoned tops.

Then go and get yourself some Champix mate.

Try not to deliberately overdose in your new found enthusiasm.
