Default Distributing programs over network using DM

    OK.

I am onto my latest project and need some ideas on how I might do this.

I have a network running at 1G which is connected to my Media dedicated Home theatre PC that has heaps of recorded content and DivX material.

Using some sort of player, I want to stream a playlist of content into the network and use my DM500 to watch the streamed content. that way i don't have to run any more cabling.

I'm sure it can be done - just interested if anyone has this type of setup running ?

    Cheers

    nickbo

Pli Jade has an inbuilt media player.

    Seems to work ok.
Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time.

    Thanks Rocket,
Jonc, as always - a super helpful link.
So far so good, I have the DMS seeing the directories and playing some of the content (I am guessing MPEG1).
I think I read that the DM (at least the 500) doesn't have the grunt to load in DIVX codecs ? And that is why we need to stream in a compatable format. Is that right ?

    For others,

Objective: get the DM seeing the stored movies folders on a hard disk on a a windows system in the network. using Jade image on a DM500s
    Serving PC (Windows)- IP 10.1.1.39
    DM IP 10.1.1.67
Downloaded and installed Movieplayer (not actually sure if I need this ! )

    - Use static IPs - it makes life much easier.
    - Share the relevant windows folder using a simple one word name for the folder, set permissions for read/write, co-owner whatever (probably not necessary - but I don't like blockages)
You can use your web browser to test that the set up is right by typing:
    \\ip.ip.ip.ip\folder in my case \\10.1.1.39\movies

then browse to the DM, log in and select box control tab and then configuration from the drop down

On the left you see the mount manager, select that and then add

This is what i entered to get up my working system.

    Description: Movies
    Filesystem Type: 1 (0 = NFS, 1 = CIFS, 2 = SMBFS) [ths appears to be critical]
    Auto Mount: X
Client Directory:/media/server1 [ I think jade sets these and others up by default, there are more]
Server Directory:movies [this is the shared folder's name on the pc]
Remote Host Name/IP: 10.1.1.39 [the Ip of the PC]
User Name:nickbo [obvioulsy matches your windows log in etc]
    Password:
    [These are simply flags set]
    Options:
    sync:
    atime:
    execm:
    noexec:
    ro:
    rw: X
    users:
    nolock: X
    intr: X
    soft: X
    tcp: X
    linux ext.:

    Then save
I then went to the DM and under the settings menu, network mount, selected above and pressed tthe yellow button to 'activate' the mount. The message will confirm connection.

Then under the files menu, you will now see all the folder and any files than can be played on the DM.

I found the mounting stuff pretty straight forward except for some reason, any windows folder with a space in the name wasn't working. I am sure there's a work around, but it was just as easy to change "TV Shows" to "TVShows" - then no problems.

Jeez, the more you poke around in these bloody DMs the more impressed your become !
