I thought PLI Iolite not Jade was the best for Recording.
As im just about to try all this if i am wrong someone please correct me but all i have read tells me PLI Iolite gives the smoothest recordings with DM500.
Hi,
I am recording (foxtel) from my dm500s with PLI Jade to an external NAS.
All in all the recordings are fine but from time to time the video freezes for a few seconds, the audio continues with no sign of being out of sync once the video comes up again.
Any ideas of the cause? Soultions?
I have 2 x dm500s (1 CS) and they each do a similar thing.
Thanks

sooo...which image is better?
I'd personally go for Jade2 released this week
I have found this problem with most images best option is to record to pvr?dvd burner but if you require the files for replay on your DM them run the recording through xproject it gets most bad pid avid etc cleaned or resynced
Is there anyone out there who can say they have a DM500 recording to Network Drive and is getting smooth recordings.
My hardware/network is up to speed so its now an Image thing.
The Jade2 release looks good, but id be intrested if someone would like to brag about their setup and what image they used.
I have a clone 500 Jade 2 setup to record to a CIFS (havent tried SMBFS yet) mounted USB key on W25 router. Its a good setup as it means no PC needs to be on to record. Recording is ok but the type of USB key makes a big difference as far as pixelisation goes. Some keys work well, others are useless. Even with the best keys however, recorded quality is not fantastic. But its the same whether you record over the network via nGrab or VLC stream. The DM500 is not exactly suited to the latest 46" HD screens but it does the job well enough.
For those you may point to my network being the issue, I've tried Linksys & Cisco routers with the same result.
Have tried Nabilosat & Gemini and found them hopeless for recording. Pli is definately the go.
Thank you.
Tonights task.
network problems are usually associated with the underpowered output abilities of the 500 itself rather than other components like routers.
unless of course anyone is trying it wirelessly in which case they are the ultimate optimist
Recordings to my NAS are jerky also.
I get better results with NGrab.
Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time.
I too have given up, the only way I can get decent recordings is by using NGrab lite as mentioned by Rocket.
I had problems recording to a NAS with my DM500 too. It was too unpredictable and always had a glitch or two within the first 15-30 minutes. The stars had to be in alignment (or the recording time very short) to get a completely clean recording.
For this reason, I bought a DM600 which has been flawless with recordings (after I also stopped using it as a server - it doesn't like being a server and recording ta the same time - at least for me). My old DM500 is now my server.

Think ill get a DM600pvr to record and just use DM500 for viewing.
Looks like a bit unstable with the 500s
Thanks Everyone
The 600pvr is a great little box - I put a hard drive in mine 2.5inch 120gb
worked beautiful for about 18 months
just lately though hard drive is startin to play up - not spinning down when not in use - jerky recordings - mounts read only - probably just a dodgy hard drive
no mate 600 network interface is good - I now record from my 600 to my 7020 hard drive over NFS - recordings are just fine no jerkiness
Dm500, DM5620, DM600 x2, DM7000 x1, DM7020, DM7025, DM800, VU+DUO and a partridge in a pear tree
All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing
I had Nbrag lite running for some time though I had to baby each recording (mainly footy replays) as for no reason recordings had the tendency to simply terminate and I would have to start it again and miss a little of the recording.
Playback was never an issue however??? Was recording to a CIFS share on XP box.
In the end I just bought a LG PVR DVD burner.
All I have to do for timed recordings is set a switch event on the DM and mirror this on the PVR. FLAWLESS!
And I can burn recordings straight to a DVD....life is GRAND!
