I run a DM500 server, Nabilosat V0.8, newcs 1.62 and mgcamd 1.31. It has 3 clients and decodes pictures. Cards are via internal slot and external phoenix.
It keeps cards updated and newcs is the perfect server for an Octagon SF918.
I am looking at doing some experimenting with Dreambox serving and was wondering what hardware and software would give the best performance results, in particular to have minimal or no picture freezing.
Have been using PLI images recently with success although Gemini has served (excuse the pun) me well in the past.
CCcam, followed by NewCS from my experience have also been my favourite CAMs
Would there be a performance improvement if I used a DM7000 over a DM500.?
My thoughts would be to have the server not do any picture decoding (especially if using a DM500) ....
What feedback do we have for other members here....

Ditto
I run Newsc 1.65 and basically have the same setup. No probs.

DM500s internal card slot CCcam 1.7 PLi Jade 1 - 6 clients no issuses. 2 LAN and 4 WAN.
i found that in CCCam,if you disable Emm on the server and recieve it from only one the clients its more responsive.
# disable all local EMM readers
# saves lots of CPU, but you won't get any updates anymore
# (unless you get updates from your clients)
#
# default: no
#
DISABLE EMM : yes
Update (allow) for the client is authorized in the the client's F line on the server, not in the clients C line.
eg. username password 0 0 1 (where 1 denotes update allowed)

# C: 192.168.1.2 12000 user3 pass3 yes
# connects to CCcam, and receives friends emus also.
It's all in the config.

I assume if you are running newcs then you need to add the following parameter for the server CCcam session in newcs.xml -> <au>off</au>
Sound right?
No.
With Newcs as the server, <au>on</au> in the newcs.xml allows this CCcam client to update the card in the Newcs server.
I use CCcam as client and server,
0 0 1 does the same job on a CCcam server as <au>on</au> does on a Newcs server.

cccam as client is good with au to on but every few months you will still need to put it into a provider box for that missed update.
Use Evocamd2.17b as the updating client and the need to remove the card into a sub box every few months will be eliminated.
Evocamd 2.17b will even bring up a dead card.
No missed updates on my CCcam server - the cards have been in their smargos for nearly a year now.
I caught one of the redundant fox boxes looking in my refrigerator one night.
It's all in the config baby

sorry to bump an old thread. How is the best way to run a DM500 server, do I turn it into standby so it's not decoding any pictures or do I leave it on a certain channel ?
I want CPU usage to be bare minimum, box won't be used for anything other than to serve to my LAN.
cheers
hey oggo u can have it in standby u dont even have to have it plugged in to the cable line just to power and all you other boxes will connnect to it...
u can still ftp it if u wan... standby will use the least amount of cpu..
so that means I can setup the DM500 as a server not even connected to the satellite, just power and ethernet?
yep - power and ethernet - no satellite feed - standby if you want
