    Default Streaming to Wii

    i just had a play on the wii and its possible to stream the Dreambox to the Wii.

    If you have HBC,install Mplayer CE 0.4 and use a playlist to link it to your Dreambox.

    the playbck is very choppy,i dont know if its the Wifi or the Wii ,it also cant handle channel changing it just locks up.

    Is there a way to lower the quality of the stream from the Dreambox so
    that it outputs less quality and puts less strain on the wii or the wifi?

    depends on the DM box.. I am guessing you are are using a 500, so not really you will have to try and do it in mplayer if the CE version is anything like the MAC and Linux versions i.e

    When you don't use zapstream you'll have to obtain the url to the current service through video.m3u

    mplayer -ac mad "$(wget -q -O - http://root:dreambox@192.168.1.100/video.m3u)"

    bummer,it would be very useful though,it works good for about 10 mins then it just pauses and even restarts the Wii.

    The choppy playback is definitely from Wifi. I've streamed divx movies from a friend's PC via to his Wii over wifi and it works but playback is extremely jerky to the point of being unwatchable.

    I was hoping to plug it in directly via ethernet but Wii's come with USB ports in the back only. You have to spend around $25-35 for the nintendo USB to ethernet adapter.

    If you go down that road I recommend getting the official one unless you can be positive the one you have has the Asix AX88772 chip in it (so far the only unofficial one known to work)

    I ended up getting my mate to go buy a standalone divx player. The one he got was awesome and as I anticipated, his non technical family find it easier to use. Still I wish I had been able to make the Wii work.

    Ive tried this with v0.7 of mplayerwii and cant make any progress with my Jade I image.

    Mplayer has a mplayerwii.conf file in the root folder that needs to be configured.

    sample configs are below but I havent had any luck with pointing to the video.m3u file, how should this be configured????

    -------------------------------------

    # This command adds a new streaming entry in the main menu
    stream =

    # Sample MP3 file on a HTTP server
    stream =

    # Sample MMS stream
    stream =

    # Here is a SMB share entry
    # Since SMB browsing isn't yet implemented, you have to append the
    # name of a file present on the share

    # For example, this entry will connect on the machine at
    # 192.168.69.131 as the user "user" with the password "password"
    # on the share called "write" and will play the file "a.avi"

    # The format is:
    # smb://[user]:[password]@[ip address]/[folder]/[file]

    #stream = smb://userassword@192.168.69.131/write/a.avi

    # If you don't specify a username and password, it will connect
    # as the Guest user
    stream = smb://192.168.69.131/write/a.avi

    dont think it works with mplayerwii,
    only mplayerCE using a .m3u file
    ive given up, as the video keeps pausing even though the audio keeps going,it sometimes resets the wii too.

    ok got it..

    Is this how you setup the config file? if not how did you do it....

    #Samba share1 (smb1:/)
    ip1=192.168.1.100
    share1=video.m3u
    user1=
    pass1=

    no just put the .m3u in the SD card,thats the easiest way.
    in your .m3u file it should have this line

    @http://[your dreambox ip address]:31344

    ^dont put @ and the [ ]

    in the mplayerce menu pick playlist
    then pick SD card.

    as for samba shares

    #Samba share1 (smb1:/)
    ip1=192.168.1.100 <--ip adress of a computer
    share1= <--- name of the shared folder,add " " if there is a space in the name of the folder.
    user1=
    pass1=

    share example:
    share1=music
    if there is a space in the share name
    share1="my music"

    BTW, it cant share drives only folders.

    this way works better than the above example as this one opens the direct stream instead of using a playlist file.

    Im using PLI image,

    download

    open up menu.conf

    find the line where shoutcast is and edit it with your dreambox stream details.

    this is how mine is,i deleted all the shoutcast entries and replaced it with all my dreambox streams.

    Code:
    <cmdlist name="shoutcast" title="Dreambox" ptr="<>" >
                <e name="../" ok="menu cancel"/>
        <e name="lounge Dm600" ok="loadfile http://192.168.1.5:31344"/>
        <e name="Dm7020" ok="loadfile http://192.168.1.91:31344"/>
        <e name="Dm500" ok="loadfile http://192.168.1.8:31344"/>
    </cmdlist>
    this is how it should look like

    if you want to,delete the title shoutcast and replace it with Dreambox in the Mplayer CE menu

    Code:
    <cmdlist name="open" title="Open" ptr="<>" >
                <e name="../" ok="menu cancel"/>
        <e name="File ..." ok="set_menu file"/>
        <e name="Playlist ..." ok="set_menu list" />
        <e name="Subtitle ..." ok="set_menu sub" />
        <e name="DVD Video ..." ok="set_menu dvd"/>
        <e name="Dreambox" ok="set_menu shoutcast"/>
    </cmdlist>
