Hi All
We recently bought a new Digital Camcorder (Canon HG10). The software that came with the camera was Ulead Moviemaker which seems easy enough to use but for some reason will not allow me to join clips together.
I was after some recommendations for editing software and has anyone tried Video Edit Magic? I was looking at this but I don't think it supports Hi def.
Cheers

Adobe Premiere is the one to use, but it can have a sharp learning curve,
if all you want to do is join some video clips, then try Ulead video studio.
I am not sure about Ulead MovieMaker however I have been using Ulead products for many years and they are very good and are amongst tghe most reasonably priced. Unless you are really into Editing foprget Premier.. mucgh too expensive and there are many that do what you as a non-pro would do.
Ulead Media Studio Pro 8 (MSP8) is the latest and it is extremely good. The only problem is Ulead has been bought by Corel and they are not going any further wiuth the product, using parts of it for other products they have. Still, I use it for pro stiff and it is very good. Get a trial to see that and other solutions they have.
Another good one is Media Edit Pro 15 by Magix. Many of the Ulead MSP users ar adding this to their collection as it will be updated as time goes on.
It is also very very good and will do all you need I'm sure.
Get the trial.
Let us know what you decided on and what you think of them.
Good luck!!
oz :-)
Thanks for the replies. I'll check them out.
Cheers
Don't forget Windows Media Maker, it's not bad for a basic home video editing program.
But I prefer Adobe Premier
Well I'm stumped. Any other editing program does not recognise the camera or the movie format, even the adobe premier can't see it. It seems that only the program that cam with the camera can see it.
It imports it as a Intervideo Win DVD file which I'm not given the option to change. Even WinDVD freezes up if I try to play it. Nero Show Time plays it though.
hi
I noticed your Canon uses MPEG4 AVC/H.264 compression video format.
My JVC Everio gz-HD6 came with the Cyberlink Powerdirector 7 video editing software.
From what i have read this software also handles mpeg4 avc/h .264 which should allow you to edit your video
Doesn't the Apple Quicktime player play those H.264 videos ? Also VLC Player, Not sure what to edit it with though, if it were me I would try convert it to raw bmp frames which should then load into nearly any program.
Thanks Dieharder I'll see if I can find it.
Skozzy my converter doesn't recognise it either. Tried that
I'd be interested in tackling a video, can you make a short video (size depends on you) and PM me and I will give you an FTP address to upload it to.
I do a lot of pro video editing with Premiere. Have just upgraded to CS4. How are you trying to connect the camera to the PC? You should be using firewire - not USB.
If you're not averse to D/Ling pirated software, you can easily find a torrent for Premiere CS4, and I'd strongly recommend getting the Lynda.com guide for that program if you haven't used it before. Ulead and virtually every other program that comes bundled with camcorders are a bunch of crap.
Thanks for all the advise. I haven't given up yet. The Win DVD issue I think is a Vista issue coz the program keeps shutting down
The file format is M2TS
How does firewire make a difference?
m2ts is a variant of HDV. Long gop MPG basically at 1920x1440.
Without confusing you even further, head to sony media software and downlaod Vegas Studio. It has built in tutorials which run AS YOU EDIT they call it "show me how"
Basically I recomend this as not only does it show you what to do and how to do it, but lets u do it with ur own material as u edit on the timeline.
For a enwby its great, if u understand basics, I wouldnt bother.
Once u get that down pat, check out Vegas Pro. These apps are very simple to use and fast compared to CS4, and dont have the copious amounts of menus CS4 has to get a basic crossfade done.
Evilbrian, if ur interested in some more editing work, PM me with some details and a link to a showreel or something... im lookin for editors...
Thanks Padre. I've ended up going with the Vegas portable as I stuffed up the installation of the others. They have tutorial s with that as well and have managed to do a short 10 min cd. The only way I could burn it was with Nero so I have to work on that.
Thanks to everyone for theie help. I am getting there slowly
try cyberlink moviemaker it does mt2s,ACVHD,mkv,H.264,avi,and so on with no issues it allows all types of re encoding output files

Cyberlink Power Director and Sony Vegas Pro. Powerful yet easy for a noobie.
