Default DM800 -Mounting USB HDD whilst retaining internal HDD

    Gentlemen,

Many folk have discussed mounting a USB HDD on their DM800 but it usually means deleting your eSATA drive, I would like to use both for recording .TS's.

    Is there a way?

    Regards,

2 usbs and 1 sata on the back .. never had this problem if you mount the usb drive in say /media/server1 and the hdd is mounted on /media/hdd

You did not try and mount them both in the same location by any chance?

    Jonc,

The internal HDD is mounted as media/hdd and working.

Under media I have made a directory called server1.

I then take the external 1TB USB drive, plug it in, then what?

I have never done a manual mount before.

    Kind regards,

I have no idea what image you are using, but if the box has a bootloader 70 image or above it will automount the device for you (check it out it might already be mounted), but if you have a clone running a pre-bootloader 70 image, then expect driver issues.

Default DM800 - Mounting USB HDD

    Jonc,

As always thanks for your invaluable guidance, you are a wealth of knowledge.

    I am using PLi Jade2 2008-12-27 with a genuine DM800.

How do I check which bootloader I am using, I have checked the contents of the /boot folder and I can find no reference to bootloader version?

Using DCC and going to Memory Info it tells me my ROOT has 60MB, my Internal HDD has 305GB, USB is not found and CF is not found.

    What now?

    Kind regards,

    Regards,
my suggestiosn were not how to fix anything - just how to see what was mounted.
what was the output of the df and mount commands ?
The other thought I had was - disconnect your internal hard drive - see if the external tries to mount in same place ?
also you said you created /media/server1 - dont they exist by default in the image ?

    Kind regards,
Sorry just watching the footie show on 9, god I miss this when I am at home. So I just chucked another Hava in here so I can watch it.

I will be back home in Thailand on Sunday and given 10 minutes to myself, I will post you some screen dumps on what to look for after you upgrade to the latest PLi release (seems you are using pre-bootloader 70 - read the PLI or any image for that matter, release notes)..

Can you confirm you have done the following please.

    1. Downloaded and installed the latest PLi Jade2 for your Box which was released / Added: on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 on this link -

    2. read the howto set up shares/mounts in the Pli Wiki which has all my screen shots in it already on -

If you have done that, then I do not know what to suggest more. Make sure you down load and use the mount manager under the plugins download option.

    Jonc,

Two days ago I successfuly installed your recommender PLi Jade 2 Tuesday, May 5 2009.

Today as per the Wiki I downloaded Mount Manager, whilst the download menu was up it said it was installing OK, it does not appear on the Plugin Browser, so how do I start it?

I have restarted DB, removed the Mount Manager and reinstalled it, but how do I start it??

    Kind regards,

    Jonc,

Thank you, the mount manager works perfectly, but:

How do I keep my internal eSATA drive working for recordings whilst having a second USB drive available for alternate recordings.

    e.g. Record on drive 1 or 2

e.g. Use Media Manager to play drive 1 or 2

    Is this possible?

    Kind regards,
