    Default DM500 - issues

    Hi All,

I have a DM500s (badged dm500v8), i downlaoded and flashed the gemini4.10 image (that part was ok) and discovered that the blue menu is password protected, it must be that the download itself was coded as the machine itself prior to this was not passcoded.

    can anyone here help?

    cheers
    hannible.

If it's not responding to DreamUp at all any more you may need JTAG to rescue it, assuming it's not a power supply problem (which sounds unlikely).

If you are going from a gemini image to say...pli..then you will need to flash it twice, or do a flash erase.

It is because gemini uses the maxvar partitioning scheme.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with that.

yeah, i was going from a gemini to a pli, thats when things went south - may have to do a bit of reading about jtag and how to do it.

i guess flashing with a null modem cable is no longer an option.

nah, this beast is only a week old (brand new).

    cheers

    .

    That is incorrect.
    It is your best option.

Get a copy of dreamup.exe and feed this file to your DM500...

I'm pretty sure z80 is right about the partitioning scheme, I've experienced that problem before too. Many tutorials advise to do a flash erase before reflashing and that's one reason why.

JTAG is usually only needed as a last resort
    • if there's a power failure during the upgrade process that leaves the boot section of the flash corrupted and unable to listen to RS232 at startup
    • or if it's been bricked by an incompatible or fake image that cripples boot
    • or if serial flash isn't an option due to RS232 port damage (which can happen if you plug onto it while it's powered but not earthed)
