If you need POI's for a different GPS system go to the website and download them for your device - almost all GPS brands are available!

There are 73 archives in there ,unpack the file you want to the map folder of your device.
The pack includes ,bank branches ,speed and red light cameras ,public toilets, holiday parks ,7eleven and so on ...

Are these much different to the POIs you (and Puca) included in the latest maps. Those maps already had a very comprehensive list of POIs.

Thnaks for the work either way..

Some of them are newer (like the third party speed cams) and some are updated.
If you copy them into your map folder Windows will complain that you already have the file (if existing) and you can see if it is bigger and newer or not.

The POI's are in the map folder as .bmp and .ove files with the same name the have in your list of POI's on your Tomtom.
So you can simply copy them and no need for activation - only the cams need activation.

All of the Aussie POI's on poiplaza.com/ seem to be over a year old, I'm guessing the ones listed here are more current ?

Keep in mind please that not all POI's are updated ,as this is only necessary if there are changes!
So you will find POI's that are over 12month old but still the latest you can get.

The collection is done by us users ,so everyone can post more or updated files - feel free to search for updates and post them here for everyone

I have an issue with my TomTom One XL V1 not displaying the Speed Cam POI's and I cant see them in the list of POI's I can enable to warn/display.

Running a patched 8.412 Navcore and 840.2562 Australian Maps.

I have used KG3.1G to download the latest cams to my device and a .dct file has been successfully created. I have also tried generating the .dct files with Alberts Easy Activator.

When I boot the TomTom back up I cant for the life of me figure out how to get these suckers working. I had a previous experience of it not working because a .dct hadn't been created.

Any help or ideas what I can try next would be much appreciated.

The speed cams are not listed in your POI's - you'll find them in Tomtom services , safety cameras.

Thanks Mate found it eventually, I had to go into Change preferences -> Show fewer Menu options once I had fewer menu options chosen I was able to see TomTom Services. With More Options enabled It wouldn't show up.

With a normal TomTom map, 8.4x in Australia (current map at time of writing).
I don't see any ov2 files besides the Safety Camera's.
There are a couple of .dat files with "POI" in there name that sound like they are the POI's

Is there any way to compare what files I'm dumping in with what is already there?
Or do I just dump the files I want in and assume that they are not already there in the map?

Have you considered checking the filenames and filesizes?

    Hi,

    Well yes

POI_TT_Aus.rar contains various subfiles which contain files like:
    AUS-Zoo.ov2
    AUS-Zoo.bmp

Where the bmp is the icon and I guess the ov2 is the data file.

My question was, the default map seems to hide all the POI's in .dat files of some kind, I cannot see a whole bunch of ov2 files sitting around, just one big 11MB POI.dat

So my question was, is there any easy way to read what's in the POI.dat so I can compare to what I would be adding by using the POI_TT_Aus.rar

I might try use the strings utility on it tomorrow from Linux to see what I can find

    Thanks

Ah yes, I should probably rephrase my question as how much overlap is there?
I mean its unlikely to be zero overlap with what the map has in terms of POI data if I throw a whole bunch of additional POI data in there...

With the map you get the POI's that Tomtom offers for the selected map.
Most POI's from the collection are custom - I say most because some are "official" too ,like the speed cams...
So it might be that you find similar POI's in the Tomtom files ,if the few kb for these files are a problem you can check them and delete the unwanted.
Same if the file is already on your device : Windows will ask if you want to overwrite - check the date and size and decide
If you check the whole size of the collection you would safe more memory by deleting 2 MP3's

    Question Mobile SafetyCamsVIC

Does anyone have POIs for mobile safety cams in VIC? There's quite a lot of them as published on a spreadsheet over the Net but can't seem to find if anyone has converted them into POIs or I've been looking at the wrong places?

Mobile cams are only necessary on your Tomtom if you don't care for the speed limits
You can use POIEDIT to make a nice usable file for Tomtom from the spreadsheet.
